hey all just wondering what starter works best with the 1.6 conversions. currently have the seirra starter in there and the car starts but is very noisey when the starter in engaging. im pretty sure the starter in on its way out. but its just strange as the starter was never noisey before the conversion. and only really started being noisey after a period of cranking. now its just dam right frightening the noise it makes. and before i go and pull out the starter motor and spend 150+ big ones on getting it overhauled. just wanted to make sure ive got the right starter in there in the first place. have access to both sierra and vitara starter and am using what looks identical to a ben t kit. oh and for the record these things fly with a g16b engine in them. very impressed with how it goes. thanks fellas |

the one you want is a reduction style starter motor. i beleive they are from a vitara. you can fit the wide bodied unit but they have to be modified to fit if you want i could reco it for you |

Can you post pics of both starters? Ive stripped a few vitaras and sierras and they've all used identical starter motors. When doing the g16b conversionin my car, using the benT kit, i read about these narrow bodied starters, but couldn't find one even at the wreckers. In the end i used one of the 'bigger' starters and ground it back a bit. |

i used a 1.3 sierra starter. But machined down the outer caseing via lathe on the main body, and linisher on the top cover. Alot of people grind the block. But i was abit iffy about that. |

reduction style starters can be bought brand new for $190. Do this and save yourself alot of effort. |

So it just needs grinding down to allow the starter to engage fully? And one got pics of where it needs grinding? |
