What pressures do you guys run, I've got a set of 235 BFG's on my jimny, and they bloke at the tyre place said to run them at 38psi, which seems way to high.

So what do you guys run on road and off road?

20, reckon the engineers that pick the number to go on the tyre placard know a heap more than a tyre fitter thats paid by the number of tyres he fits

My 31's are at 20psi on road and 10 off
My 205's are at 25psi on road

38psi is good for much heavier 4wd's ie; Pootrol, Landcruiser, etc.

mine rarely have more then 8psi in them. the tyre placard says 20 to 22psi depending om load.

anything less than 30??? Mine hates anything more than 25. I'm with scrawny on this one, 20psi on and 10, sometimes 8 off road. I have 30 inch muddies though

my tyre book from tyre shop said to run 35psi. there just standard 205's.

go by the tyre placard and then make adjustments as you need depending on tyre brand etc.




the engineers who came up with that setting are at the top of the mechanical chain.....tyre fitters, like the blokes shown, are at the bottom!

hey,
i run 32 in the rear and 34 in the front just to help with the steering(non P/S). or anything around 30 depending on if i can be bothered adjusting the gauge thing.

off-road between 20 and 15psi, but depends on what im doing.
ive got 235/75/15 on 7" sunnies.

tyre pressure is dependant on load. The pressure recommended would be max inflation pressure at max load. Your jimny would only be a quater of this load. So follow the tyre placard. That is to suit the load of the jimny. I am writing this on my phone so if you want a more detailed explanation let me know

38psi is wayyyyy to high !

When i got my new tyres fitted last year, they put 32psi in them, and the ride was damn hard, it used to skip over train tracks in the road and crab sideways... thats when i realized they were way to high !

My 89 Vit tyre placard says 23 to 25psi, i went 24psi on my 215x75R15's, ride is much better, and the tyres are wearing evenly and very well !

depends on what u roll in, aparantly the tyre placard which is the shit says i should run my 32"s at 26psi in my poojabber, seriously way too low, 40psi is what i run

consider tyres to be part of not only your supension, but brakes too. running a stupidly high pressure over what the manufacturer states will have a big impact on braking distances, in particular the wet.

Here is an example of load vs pressure.
A 32x11.5R15lt tyre with a tyre load of 900kg requires 36psi (this is it's max load and pressure) whereas if it were a tyre load of 720kg it would only require 25psi to carry the load. This is only an example. If you provided the load index or tyre size and the GVM of the Jimny I could give a pressure to suit the load of the Jimny.

I'd say if anything affects your cars handling it is your tyres.. Olympic Overlanders HT's were NEVER a GOOD tyre and do you know their history?
IE: How many years were they sitting on a car not being driven and possibly flat before you got them?

Then there is the liability side of the story...
You get involved in a collision and Police investigation finds you have ROCK FUCKING HARD tyres at 35-38psi you are screwed.
At such high pressures you have way less grip.

I run mine at 20 on road if i have to drive over 5 mins, but usually they are on 8 because thats what i run out in the bush

What would you run in a 31 10R 15 MTZ on a sierra Hardtop? I know the tyre placard states 20 PSI but that for the cheese cutter stocko's.

Theory says the bigger the tyre the less pressure required.... but ....
For a 31x10.5 I'd start at 22 psi and go from there.. Check for feathering, worn centre or worn edges every week or so and adjust pressure as needed.
If you live out in the country and only drive straight roads you'll get away with less pressure than someone who lives in town and goes around 500 roundabouts every day.

Use the tyre placard as a start point, drive for an hour, stop and check the pressure. If it's gone up by MORE than 4psi, your start pressure was too LOW, add pressure now! If it has gone up by LESS than 4psi, then your start pressure was too HIGH and youn need to drop 2psi! Those new pressures should be used as your start points for the next cold start!

And when you are off-roading, then use it the same way. Start with the guidelines that come from places like the Cooper Tyre Book, the Mickey Thompson guide to tyre pressure. Apply the 4psi rule, and adjust your pressures as you go. You will take only a sort while to work out what pressure is a good start for you, and by using the 4psi rule you can adjust the pressures to what is the optimum for YOU and your driving style, load, vehicle, conditions, temp, etc.

I run around 20psi on road, and around 5 off road, when i feel lzy, I run her home at 5psi, not a lot of difference, but then, I rearly go over about 60k on the black top.
