dug out an old 4wd action mag that they did a spottie comparison and they said the nite stalker 170 hid were the best budget hid spotties.

ive done a bit of reading and it seems ppl are happy with the normal 170s but i cant find anything about the hids so i was wondering if anybody has them or seen them in action. found a set on ebay for about 350 so they are very tempting.

i fit standard hid lights and after market kits in place of old bulb style all the time. i have hid kit in my rally 4000 hella's and i love em. best light out put is the 4300k. dont go the 6000k. we fit hid's in work lights and spotlights and head lights. i mount the igniter and transformer in a sealed box. makes it last longer.. hope i helped. i might post some pics when i go back to work..

I ran the largest steel bodied Nite Stalkers for years I think they were 220's, they were a great light for the money. From memory they are a CIBIE knock off, it really depends on the quality of the ballast & globes. I'm guessing the HID's would be just as good if they're still the same construction.

you have to make sure the optical point of the hid globe is the same as the halegon bulb. thats where the filimant burns on the halegon compared to the gas in the hid. if this is is to far in it will turn your spot into a spread and if to far out (in the light) will make a bright spot in your beam. thats some times the differance between some light not be a good retro-fit for hid. but the navara 220's are a good hid retro.. hella 170's are good light to.. but nothing will bet the 170 240 light force or cibie...

light force rule i have had 2 sets and the chrome on the inside is still on both sets :P

Depends how you treat them I think. Submerge them often - they die. Otherwise I've had my 170 Strikers for 4 years and my XGTs for 2, both running 55W HIDs now, and no problem with the chrome on either. Otherwise maybe some bad batches? Either way send Lightforce some photos and I'd be surprised if they didn't offer to replace them, or at least sell you the reflector at a reasonable price.

I cracked one of the housings on my 170 Striker when they were about 2 years old. Lightforce replaced it free of charge, no questions asked (walked in to LF head office in SA).

Have a look here too if you're happy with cheapies:

if you ran high W bulbs in them or any light the chrome sometimes will peal. hid's develop lease heat then halegon bulbs.. the light output diff between a 100w bulb to a 150w bulb is 5 pecent, but almost 70% more heat.. im sure light force are standard 55w..

lightforce had a issue with the quality of some of there wire, the short bits on
the outside of the housing, and they replace them with no questions even
well outside the warranty period. the problem is water wicking into the globe area.
recently i made the mistake of swapping my 240blitzs for some 55w HID rally
4000 and what a fucking mistake that was. the 100w non HID lightforces
worked much better then the hella's, i was so pissed with the hellas that i
gave the crap things away.

get lightforce cos they is good

i think light force are like snap-on tools and warn winchs, they are good but to expensive for what they are and you can get somthing just as good for less money.

the lights im talking about are acctually factory hid and not a retrofit kit. it prob wouldnt make much diff if they were.

idk what to do. just dont wanna fork out a small fortune on a set of spotties and either have them stolen or brake them. i know i can get a set of 170 light force for about the same coin as the nite stalkers but i would think that the nite stalker hid would produce more light than the light force.

for 350 a pair theres a no brand hid from baxters. its a very strong light. lot stronger then stalkers. they a rally 4000 knock off. had very good success selling them. but i think 170's would be a better light cause of its light wait and huge light output.. even with out hid kit...

x2 the head office in Adelaide replace my old mans 170's no questions asked when the lens discoloured & they were a good 3 + years old, they were some of the very first ones sold back in the day.

he tells me they are sensational light output and spead, I havn't seen them first hand so no more help sorry.
Ive run the haloegn ones in a 180mm on my work ute for about 3 years and no compaints they have 130w bulbs and the spread and output is great and the chrome is still on the refectors.
cheers andrew
