Is it still possible to buy NEW sierra brake calipers? If so, where from? I haven't seen them anyway in Aus in my online wanderings. The ones used for my rear disc conversion are a fair part knackered. The slides are rattly and sloppy and prone to siezing, plus misc smaller issues. Would rather grab a new set if they're available at a reasonable price than a suspect used set. Haven't hit up the local zook dealership yet as my maruti vin always causes grief with their system. |

I'd imagine with the condition mine are in, they're not worth rebuilding. Much prefer to start fresh. If I can find somewhere that sells them. |

If I can find somewhere that sells them. hey mate... how are they that bad that they arent worth recoing?? i have seen some real old school car ones that look like aboslute crap come back from our brake place at work and look great, i thought they werent salvagable. you can buy all new parts for them, ie pistons and dust boots ect. |

The rebuild kit is less then $20 and some steel wool a parts washer and about 30mins a side. Did mine last weekend at the camping trip. I have one lock up and blow the seals so I had to rebuild it on the side of the road. |

I just rebuilt 2 calipers. Pulled all apart,cleaned up, wire brushed them, greased up slides/Rubbergrease on piston for easier install. Repaint. They looked destroyed.Covered in rust etc. And the pistons did not move by hand. (have pics but on fone atm) |

I considered the rebuild option because of the minimal work and cheap cost, but decided it's not worth my while as the issues aren't just the typical seals/dust boots found in a rebuild kit. This is my _rear_ disc brakes. So I can only assume the calipers originally came from a wreckers when the conversion was done. My front calipers are in mint condition. The rear caliper slides are worn to buggery and are full of slop. One of the pistons is scored on the outside, I assume from the previous owner beating it to death trying to remove it incorrectly. Brakes are one area where I don't like to do things half assed. Hence looking for new calipers. I found that PBR make a set, but don't have a price from them currently. |

There are companies that do this stuff all day every day, they are designed to be rebuilt its not a $2 Chinese TV all the rubbers are in a seal kit, the piston can be replaced (with a better than standard one too) the slides can be replaced, you can even bung a new bleed screw in if you want to there is no other moving parts in a caliper, the body either isnt physically damaged so is fine to use or its beat up and leaking in which case you bin it and get another $2 one from the wreckers to start with. Given the original calipers werent made by PBR and I doubt they they would bother for the small market and Suzuki wouldnt let them anyway I doubt they would tool up to reproduce new caliper bodies so you are buying rebuilt ones anyway |

mine get rebuild at least once a year. there is so much movement in the sliding bits that the rubber boots tear and then it gets packed with crap and seizes. |

suzuki owners will generally look at the cheapest option and see if it is viable. There is very little reason to buy new calapers which are going to be farking expensive when you can rebuild them for cheep. i have a few sets second hand if you want a pair. Could rebuildthem too i suppose. |

Got a new pair from the local brake dealer for the front. pbr branded. With some DBA slotted rotors to match. And a good condition set for the rear from want33s with some new RDA rotors. Trouble free ever since. 
Although now I'm looking for a big brake upgrade for the front. At least lwb vitara and boosted scooby master cylinder, but preferably bigger. |
