| Post subject: | Removeable exhaust system |
I bought some MPH extractors off eBay a little while ago to suit my 1990 Sierra, but when I install them I also want to sort the rest of the exhaust also. I'm looking to get a single piece exhaust system made that is removeable from the extractors back - mainly for the purpose of easy maintainence of the chassis and underside - a removeable exhaust will let me get into all the nooks and crannies of the floorpan without any access issues. Firstly, is this legal? If it is, are there any off-the-shelf Sierra exhaust systems I can buy? |

i dare say you could ask for flanges to be welded in or something at any exhaust place of choice.. thats where id be starting investigation. well actually id look at the current system and somehow mark where I believe the joins should be then go to an exhaust place and see what they suggest. Be aware that flanges etc are a leak potential to. so they may be frowned upon emmisions wise but you need to further investigate within the trade. \ While your in there(exhaust place) find out what the deal is with the exhaust coming out the side, going over the chassis rail, but under the passenger floor pan.. im pretty sure its 15 or 18 inches from the nearest rear window |

a flanged exhaust is standard on a GU patrol so i would say it would be legal |

no legality problems with a removable system in QLD. if it was my car i would get a flexy join with a flanged welded onto the extractors. then have the rest of the system made in 2 pieces for ease of removal.. i havent been able to find an off the shelf item.. but there may be one. i wouldnt even bother removeing the system.. i would just make something that is going to make it easy to get into the nooks. |

the other photo is my SWB and this is my LWB the exhaust is basically held on by the headers, when the car hits a big bump the tailpipe hits the ground broke the exhaust mounts as well.
