Has anyone changed the clutch on a Vitara?

I have just done it and one thing that is a bit odd is the clutch pressure plate when bolted onto the flywheel with the plate and all nicely aligned does not sit hard up against the flywheel when the bolts are done up to specified torque! .... Has anyone else noticed this? , is it normal? should it be hard up against the flywheel ?

yes it should or it will come lose and fly apart and smash your gearbox

you may have the clutch disc around the wrong way.

No plate definately on the right way! There is a big label on it "flywheel this side". The haynes manual lists the torque at 12 f/lb that's pretty soft! I'm thinking I might just tighten them up to a reasonable torque level with locktite !

perhaps the bolts you used for the flywheel sit too high OR the label is wrong. The side of the clutch plate that sits up higher has to go towards the pressure plate

12 ft/lb cant be right, I would do it up till its tight and seated
