| Post subject: | how to install engine mounts? GV EDIT: How to |
my solid gold engine mounts for my GV arrived today but now i need to install them. i tried by lifting the engine with a jack to slide the old mounts out but it looks like i wont get enough clearance to slip them in. dose anybody know a good way to get them in? |

anyone? the engine is a G16b so if anyone has done a vitara it should be very similar, or even a sierra would give me some pointers |

Support/jack motor to one side, Unbolt mounts off the chassis and motor? Can't be that hard. Or do 2 at once with engine crane? |

first thing i did was loosen all the bolts on the engine mounts, there should be one on top and two underneath all. i found them really easy to get to with a really long socket extension.
once they were all undone i put floor jack under the end of the bell housing (just before the sump) and used it to slowly take the weight of the engine.
easiest way to get the left side mount out was to remove the whole brace from the side of the engine first. with the weight taken off the new engine mount can be slipped straight in.
now before you bolt the engine brace back on you need to replace the right mount. i did this by slowly jacking up the engine keeping a eye on the exhaust, radiator hoses (one of the lower hoses are bolted onto the right engine brace) and the back of the engine near the fire wall. once there was just enough space i lifted the engine mount up and wiggled it out through the gap. this can be a bit tricky getting it free.
this is the new one slipped into place, i needed to twist the engine to the left slightly to get the mount in, watch out when doing this as the jack might slip
loosely bolt on the left side brace. the jack can then be lowered slowly making sure all the mounts are lined up. then just tighten all the nuts up and its all done, i put some loctite on the engine mount bolts just for luck

this is why i needed to replace my engine mounts
and the new vs the old, turns out the V6 mounts are exactly the same
