hey i was thinking about building an external roll cage in a couple of weeks. i was just wondering if anybody who has built one would be able to tell/show me how they mounted it to the vehicle?

if you look through my members thread theres a couple of ideas, just dont copy the rear  i mocked it up to bolt to my std rear bar and never made a chassis mounted strong bar oops

the sliders were 40mm rhs mounted to chassis, then had 40mm angle n top of that that the cage welded too.The angle was bolted through the rhs then making it removeable. Then the front bull bar was chassis mounted and i ran bars from the mini stinger thingo  around to the A pillar hoop which was then clamped. So i could remove bull bar and brush bars in one go,then 6 bolts and the cage came off too.

Probably not the strongest setup but my zuk had a few big stacks and nothing ever moved.

thanks for the replies. what im mostly concerned about is how exactly do you attach the rocksliders that the cage attaches to to the chassis?

steve OOZUK has a good pic of a set just built for his.look the goods

but on mine i mounted off the body mounts that come out off the chassis with RHS,then flat bar on the other side and some 1/2" HT bolts through.never budged and was always hitting them being reasonably low.

Yours being LWB will need another brace in the centre to keep them strong.

Big tip - Call it a ladder rack when dealing with rego, RTA, police etc.

I rang an engineer this morning and he said that it's fine so long as it doesn't interfere with the driver's vision or has any sharp bits.

my engineer i used also said this but he said to me there is no need to put it on the report as there is nothing illegal about it etc,no real difference to bullbar and brush bars, side steps etc.Just an accessory so he didnt put it on,maybe not to attract attention from rta though?

I'm sorry but that looks like you've driven through a camp site an ran over a row of tents and all the tent posts got stuck to your car..

Each to there own but i think exo's spoil the look of sierra's

don't mean to offend i just calls it as i see's it

i agree. not so much with the tent post comment but i don't think i have seen a single exo on a sierra that has worked fully with the right look. if you want exo idea's have a look at the american sites, Pirate 4x4 or Zuwharrie BBS. if you can't find a design you like the look of there you won't find one.
