I was cleaning the engine bay and noticed a hole in the trans box about the size of a 20 cent piece is it suppose to be there

What type of vehicle? Does it go right through or is it blanked off? Do you have pics? I would suggest it's probably just a casting for something that isn't used on your model.

Just re-read your post :roll: :lol:

It goes through to the flywheel? It's for checking the ignition timing and comes with a rubber bung that fits in it.

Heh yeh ScrawnC had to reread a few times too, i take it he means transMISSION not transFER. If its transmission than thats normal, if its transfer than youre in trouble.

There is a hole in the left side of the bellhousing on Sierras and LJs that is the inspection hole for the ignition timing mark on the flywheel. There should be a rubber plug to fill the hole, but they sometimes get lost.

could that be why the clutch in not engaging because i had it submurged in mud could it be slipping on sumthing that has gotten into the clutch or flywheel
