I have to replace my inlet manifold gasket on my '89 Sierra today. It blew a welsh plug and I had to remove the manifold to repair it ,I have a new gasket coming through Repco today. My question is, do I put anything on the gasket surfaces before I install it e.g. gasket cement etc. ????

It should be a paper type gasket...
Just put a VERY THIN smear of gasket silicon on it.

loctite make a product called Hi-Tac, its made specifically to put on paper gaaskets, and it comes in a easy to apply glue stick style canister.

i used some on my waterpump the other day, worked a treat.

Yeh as others have mentioned, use a tiny bit of sealant. Other than the head gasket, i never fit any gasket without some automotive silicone.
