line the keyway up for the crank not the marks
if you are confident that moving either pulley 1 tooth in the belt will make it any closer its probably right but without seeing it I cant be sure its up to you

Is there a specific way in which the timing belt should go? I've got my 4 markings lined up (2 on pull, 2 on block) and the tension adjuster in. I forgot to look though, does it matter which way the belt goes on? |

yes, if its new then writing should be the right way for you to read it if old then the way it came off which hopefully was the same as above |

its the old belt, a dayco one. Just gunna put it on so I can read the writing, which should hopefully be the right way. |

Hmmmm, I dunno what the allowence is on the belt, but my markings aren't -quite- lining up perfectly, but I dont see how it can be changed. I've cranked it over twice, and nothing sounds wrong, but... when the cam marking on the pulley and the one on the block are aligned, the crank and block markings are off. I have two markings on my crack though, one on the top of the ridge, and one in the gulley. The marking is lined kinda in the middle of both. Will this make my engine explode? I'm pretty sure it was like that before I took the belt off, and I didn't move any of them until I put the belt back on. |

if the right hand side of the belt is tight and those marks line up like that again after spinning the crank pulley 2 full turns clockwise thats spot on |

x2 While you've got everything else chuck a new belt in there, better safe than sorry, especially on something that can fuck your whole engine if it breaks... |
