Post subject:  Zooks with 5k in them - Help
this is a question to the guys out there with the toyota 5k motors in your zooks. i know that there is a few of you out there.

I have a 5k in my zook ute and it doesn't seem to be running right (so i think). what i would like to know is what sort of speed do you get out of it at what revs and what fuel consumption you are getting.

Mine is a 5 speed manual and I am getting approx 15L per 100 (250k's out of a 40L tank) and i am running 31's on 4.1 NT diffs and 1 lt transfer case. i can sit on 100 but it is at almost 3400 RPM.

i just want to compare what you other guys get before i start spending money on something that may be correct.

Sounds abit heavy on fuel..

Very different. But my 3k (1166cc) ke30 gets run around:500kms. Less on the freeway as its a 4sp.. prob 40L tank. She's only a baby..But way less lego shape..

up the revs to about 3800 ish and your consumption should go down.

How does that help?? wouldn't it give me worse consumption??

with your foot flat to the floor youll find that your fuel consumption goes higher. in efi cars this is due to the "open loop" mode of the ecu being enabled and o2 sensor readings are no longer being used. In carbie cars its to do with the amount of load the engine is under etc.

3400 at 100 ks is not that bad. anything up to 4000 i wouldnt be concerned about. you might find 3400 is a little low, depends where the peak power of the motor is.

Is it getting 250 actual km or 250 on the speedo... Cos with 31s there will be a fairly large discrepancy between the two...

My old one revved at about 4000 rpm at 100

Hmmm... 15L per 100km is quite alot for a 4 cyl... 3400rpm is good at 100kph... if its a Carby engine i would be getting the Carby checked... and when was the last time plugs etc were done... has it been tuned recently ? :wink: :lol:

I have not tuned the car since i have owned it ( bought it last may) so that is why i was asking the question before i went to get it tuned. just wanted to double check to see if it needed it or not before spending the money.

It always pays when buying a second hand car to chuck a new set of leads, plugs and a coil in it, and have a look at the carby make sure its all operating correctly... Choke is working, jets all squirting nicely, butterflys open and close smoothly etc etc...
