Post subject:  Grand vitara Gearbox Removal. Any Tips???
Who here has done it? and how difficult is it to do?

I have to get the Gearbox out and have a good look at the clutch, I also have a squeaking noise coming from the gearbox area when I operate the clutch, I am guesssing there is a bush of the clutch fork that has worn?



Any tips appreciated. And any pitfalls to watch out for.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF REMOVEING A sUZKI BOX??
Friggen caps lock.. :evil:

The stud's thay are so well known for is the main reason thay can be hard to get out, only tip's I can give is, drain the box & transfer & DON'T TRY TO LIFT IT!!!!!!!!!

Use a floor jack to take the weight & you can do it by lot's of grunting & swearing. :P :P

I second Steknig. Got mine out with a trolley jack and a friend to help to put it back in.

Getting the whole lot out isn't nearly as hard as trying to get the transfer off the box with it in the car :x

Unless you have access to a hoist and a gearbox stand I would recommend paying someone to do it.

Should you choose to accept this mission, keep these points in mind (based on my experience with a V6):
-The top bell housing bolts are a bastard to get to without 100cm of socket extensions and a gooseneck or two.
-The earth cable between the firewall and one of the bellhousing bolts is the perfect length to get caught up in between the flywheel and the bellhousing when you are putting the box back in.
-Your handbrake light wire will probably get squished by the gear lever boot surround when you are putting it back on, causing the light to stay on all the time.
-The exhaust bolts on the join just in front of the cat converter will probably require heat or at least lots of penetrant to get them moving.
-Beware of aftermarket so called heavy duty clutches. Not sure what brand mine was but it has only done about 30k km's and is just about knackered.

I have that same squeaking noise! Always wondered what it was....clutch works fine though just sometimes it can be quite loud :roll:

my clutch pedal squeaks from the bushes. Could be that

Suzistore sell the bush's to fix that, the retunr spring can put up a hell of a noise to..

I'd put money on Excedy sports tuff. Utter SHIT!!!!

As for the hand brake wire, you only don that once, or twice, or twenty seven time's :roll:
