Hey guys my engine just started blowing smoke in the past 2 days. i think its rings. or its been blowing smoke for a while and i havnt noticed it. ive got a spare complete engine sitting in the shed, its a 1.3. im going to pull it apart and check through it all and maybe do a few cost effective performance mods to give it a bit of zip before i switch it over into the sierra. i think ill get a webber ( stock carbies dont tickle my fancy, bad experiences in the past. ) shave the head and get extractors and that'll do. maybe get a cam grind if you guys think its worth it but i cant see it being in such a low hp setup. my question is what is a desired amount to shave off the head? also what depth will the head be standard? just so i can check that it already hasnt been done. hope someone can help. also would it be worth while getting something else done seeing as the compression will be upped? thanks |

to my knowlage the engine conversion is cheap. only thing you need is to gearbox to motor plate. |

and a EFI fuel pump with high pressure fuel lines and a filter, and modified engine mounts, and lots of insulation tape, new radiator hoses, a blue plate for the modification, etc etc. Think my $1100 G16 engine ended up around a $2000 conversion |

zookieboi wrote: my question is what is a desired amount to shave off the head? depends on what pistons you are running, what fuel you want to run-standard 91 95 98 100 octane (suzuki says 89 minimum for a standard head, cam work etc etc lots of things best decide what you want FIRST then talk to an engine builder who can tell you what the best options are, or try boostcruising cause amongst all the crap there spun by the buzookas of the world you will find some good info on cranking up a G13 engine |

Mate unless one of us that knows how to shave a head has it in front of us we cant give you a simple answer. there are about 5 things you need to look at. First of all not all heads/decks are exactly the same from the factory. If at some point in that engines life it had the head off it was probably skimmed so it would be lower anyway. If you look on the deck side of the head on the sides (you have to look for them) you will find max marks they are a rough idea of the max amount you can take off. The best way to be sure is play-doe take the head offget a ball of playdoeplace it on top of you piston at TDC put the head back on WITH THE HEADGASKET and screw it down with a few headbolts put the timing belt on and turn it over a few times. take it all apart and messure the thickness ofthe playdoe and that will tell you your clearance. I am running a 1.6 16v block with a 1.3 head and I shaved it ummm I think it was 60 thow past the max line. Hope that helps |

But all that said, you are going to spend all this money fixing up the second 1.3 and honestly your not going to squeez to much more out of it. If you take that money and put it into your 1.6efi you will be ten steps ahead. There is a night and day difference in the efi and carbys. It sounds like your machanicly inclined so all you would need is the ben-t kit ($200 for everything) the time to get it in about $50 in new hoses, $400 of fuel pump and some hoses and get a good auto elect. in and toss him about $400 and a case of beer and your on your way. If you think about how much all the new head gasket and bolts and headwork/VRS webber blahhh blahhh blahhh is going to cost to build that 1.3 its not worth it. |

get high compression pistons, cam grind, and if you give the head and block (with crank) to the shop there able to work out what amount can be taken off... motors are a specialist shop requirement. |
