ok, me and my house mate pulled my G16A vitara apart, i had a cracked head. sent it away, welded, straitened, machined.. we've put it back together and it wont bloody start. new leads, plugs, cap, rotor. VRS kit, everything seems lined up, timing seems ok. makes no shitty noises when it turns over, sparks @ the plug and has compression.. what more can we check for?? any ideas welcome.. |

Is the G16A injected? I cant remember, if so maybe a sensor is disconnected, not getting power to fuel pump, etc... it could be a million things. About timing too, did you set the timing up 180deg out, it does matter. |

your compression may be on cylinder 4 and not cylinder 1? |

G16A is carby... Sounds like you have one of two things wrong.. 1, Cam - crank timing is incorrect. 2, Distributor timing is incorrect. |

I THINK its around 120-140psi??? Don't hold me to it, i'm probably wrong. As long as there isn't a great deal of difference betweeen the 4 it should be ok |

ok how do you know the timing is correct? how do you know there is fuel in the carb? how did you time the cam, both keyways up like every other engine or the cam keyway down like a G16 should be |

So while cranking the motor and rotating the dizy 360 degrees , bolt removed and holding down , you get no firing at all , that would mean the timing is out or it is flooded when in the right position and not able to fire , Cheers Paul. |

yeah i got the thing running... finally.... although a lot of oil is coming out the back of the top of the motor somewhere. i fear maybe the rear cam seal has not gone is?? problem is, we didn't pull them out, the boys @ the head repair place did, so we dont know what were looking for...... and in the VRS kit i have a rubber ring, perhaps 4-5cm round with a wall thickness of maybe 3mm... and its orange.. should that be on the back of the cam?? everything in the VRS kit has been used, apart from this bloody orange ring.. |

i dont know, i got home and looked @ it myself (my mechanic friend was doin all the work) took my time, called someone i know is VERY good with cars, followed his instructions EG, take rocker cover off, make sure the valves lift @ the right time when piston 1 in TDC, make sure the dizzy is on the right cyliner. make sure the leads go to the right plug, i played with the distributor position a little, and it started..... needed a gut full of throttle though, but it started.... and i eventually got it to run without my foot on the pedal, then was able to set the timing........ so. my "mechanic" house mate couldn't get it started.. im a computer nerd.. hate gettin my hands dirty, and with some instructions.. i got it started... in saying that, i would no way have been able to put all the bits back together like he did.. lol |

Do you have a 90 degree dizzy drive , if so the cam seal should be a O ring , does it bolt on with 3 bolts , Cheers Paul. |

Gasket around the housing of the dizzy drive, or rocker cover |
