Post subject:  1987 SJ50 Purchase Questions
I'm looking at buying a Sierra, I've had a good look around the forums but that has only created more questions! Can I lay a few on you?

Firstly how much should I pay? This thing has done high Kms.

I want to build this up as a daily driver / weekend toy. I want around 30" tyres and as much flex as possible! I do NOT want to go SOA.

Would a body lift and extended shackles only give me the result I'm after? ie. soft original springs. (i assume new lifted springs would be quite firm) I already know what shocks to run. Great little tip that!

also...

Will I need longer brake lines?
When did wide track come about?
Is narrow track no good?
WHY does RUF create more flex?
What faults should I look for?
I want to weld my front centre. why shouldn't I?
What else do I need to know?

88.5 was when wide track came about.
you will get what you pay for in most cases. but between 2000 and 4000 depending on whats on it. Up to 5500 if its realllllllllyyyyy nice and well built up.
Narrow tracks are ok justa bit tippy at times but you can put W/T diffs under it quite easily.
Rust is the main thing to look out for on the old N/T look all around the wheel arches and all around all of windows. if your staying spua you wont need longer brake lines but they are always a good idea as long as they arent to long.
As for faults there arnt too many to look for just make surre someone hasnt hacked it up too bad. Try to get one as stock as possible unless you know the mods were done right.
Welding diffs is a cheap easy way. I have my rear one welded up. some say its great some will tell you its foolish. When welding the front you will have extreemly heavy steering when in four wheel drive and you wont be able to turn tight corners.

Timmay runs 33s and his is SPUA, so with a good setup you can run pretty much what you want.
