My front shaft has been painfully close to falling apart at the slip yoke when flexed up and i assume that when i fit longer shocks it will fall out, so can i weld a cut of section from another slip yoke onto the existing to fix this issue. I know it sounds a bit dodge but most of my 4x4ing is done at low speed anyways. Anyone else done this

mod an ln65 era hilux shaft to fit

give it a go. I'd probably cut off the section you need then slip it and the old yoke onto the shaft splines so you can put a couple of spot welds on to locate the new section properly.

i can't see anything other than a slight imbalance being an issue but if you weld it neatly and then linish it back so its all even it should be ok.

What I did on my shorty was I went down to the wreckers and got an old subaru touring wagon rear shaft which is same diameter only cost ten bucks, then machined off the splined shaft and uni joint welds ends as they are like a plug that plugs into the the hollow shaft and rewelded them onto the suby shaft which I had cut to the right length. quick and easy and not dodgy.

Don't know about extending the yoke, but when we used to do suspension lifts on ambulances they had to extend the tail shaft... this needs to be done professionally as they are a balanced item.

Maybe a tail shaft form another model Zook will do the job/ fit... not sure.

This may help. Team Evolution extended the receiving end on mine, cut the ends off and added a longer thicker pipe in the middle. I think he may have put it in a lathe to do a rough balancing job on it, I have had it up to about 80 K's in 4WD without any great vibrations.

I already have a 1.5" spacer on the front shaft, i was thinking of cutting a 2" section of the receiving end off my spare shaft slipping it over the spline section followed by the normal receiver on the current shaft to keep it nice and straight and give it a nice uniform weld.
I will give it a go when the weather fines up and post some pics.
