dont worry about the sway bar. just grab everything off the car that ya can.
if it has a driveline take every thing, as you might want it later. even
cut the motor mounts off the chassis.

Hi, i own a not-so-normal 1985 SJ40 (Will post a thread on it later) Recently i broke my rear diff Passenger side drive-gear and the planetary housing are destroyed Tracking down an SJ40 diff centre is proving all but impossible All i can find are SJ50s, which will fit but are 3.9:1 instead of the 4.1:1 i need However i managed to pick up a "Parts" Zook (SJ70 1990 Model) for a case of beer (The right price ofcourse) And it has two perfectly good axles.. Diffs, brakes, hubs, tailshafts.. All in great condition SJ70's have beefier diffs to support the 1.3L engine, aswell as a 2" wider track, which will be very useful when i lift it higher Also the tailshaft slides are compatable between the two models, same length and spline.. So there is no reason i cannot run SJ40 half-shafts off the Transfer and SJ70's halves to the diffs The problem comes with the springs however - The spring seats are slightly wider on the axles (Due to the 2" wider track) I know i can buy new springpads, and i'm not scared of a welder My question is this: Is the effort worth it? And has anyone else done this that could give me pointers? I have all tools/experience to complete this task, just don't want to go into it blindfolded if i don't have to Thanks, -Jack |

the sj50 NT centres wont fit your sj40 diff housing tho will they?and as you say different ratio. Seems like you have gone the right direction with the 90 model WT diffs,they are 3.7 ratio tho so your gearing will be a little higher now.Plenty of blokes on here have done the WT conversion,relatively simple mod.either buy new perches or make some out of RHS.Good luck with it mate. atleast you have all the WT tierods and draglinks etc so it should be straight forward. |

When you say perches tierods and draglinks? Could you explain what you mean? I'm not new to 4WDing or anything car related, but 4WD termanology escapes me.. I'm usually a 100% DIYer, this is the first forum i've signed onto The 1990 SJ70 is being taken away for scrap in the next few days I have the complete axle assembly and brake lines I don't have the springs/front swaybar or U bolt/shock mounts Should i get them? |

Get as much stuff as you can.. It all comes in handy at some stage. The draglink and the other stuff is the steering gear from the steering box to the wheels. |

It's not a hard job but you definitely need the Ubolts and plates - 1.0 diffs have smaller housing diameter so the Ubolts/spring plates aren't interchangeable. Steve. |

yeah mate grab anything thats attatched to the diffs in anyway.you will end up using most of it and its handy now anyway and easy to throw after if unused. |

Steve. Funny that, i took the ubolts but not the plates Guessing i'll need the front sway bar aswell then? (It's attached to the front plate) So far the list: Ubolt plates Steering assembly Front swaybar |

I fitted WT diffs to my SJ40T - I used the SPOA kit from lowrangeoffroad.com. Of course, I didn't go sprung over, but the perches (which are similar to the above) were adjustable. Just cut off the WT perches, measured the NT spacing and welded on new ones ensuring I had correct angles (check angles before cutting off originals). I had to trim one to fit the pumpkin, but easy enough. As Steve said, not a hard job, but get as much bits as you can. |

As Steve said, not a hard job, but get as much bits as you can. Just read through your Zook's build thread, and the WT conversion looks like cake Especially since i have the diffs seperate, i can take my sweet time.. And probably paint them too |
