Gday, ive been looking at your past Articles and you's seem to be the crew to ask.
I have a SJ40T, with a 1 liter, and the slower 4 speed, not like the old tin dash models, its basicly a 1.3, with a 1 liter motor, and the slow 4 speed, but it has all the 1.3 liter unis, diffs and tail shaft, and i am looking at puting in just the 5 speed in, and not the 1.3 liter motor as i like the 1.lt more then the 1.3,s when useing drum fuel, but how how much different is things like the bell houseing, clutch, mounts, etc, and how much would it cost to change would i need a custom beel houseing made, p.s i have already got a 5 speed

1.3 5 speed won't bolt to a 1.0 engine...
Maruti 5 speed will bolt to 1.0 but they aren't very common.
Custom bellhousing would cost more than a full 1.3 conversion.

or get a maruti 4 speed box and put the guts of a 1.3 litre 5 speed into it. but i doubt you will have enough grunt to really use 5th gear.

how much would it cost to put the 1.3 liter 5 speed guts in the maruti 4 speed, or to buy the maruti 5 speed if i 1 can be found, and I would use 5th to make it so your not reving the guts out of her, shes still pretty well still stock, used as a station run around, so it travels a fair bit, and has a hard life.

The problem isn't finding the 5 speed it is the 1.0 engine hasn't got enough power to turn 5th gear....
Just put a 1.3 engine and box in... or even better a 1.6 out of Vitara... You won't regret it.

I read this often, so what are the actual 1L and how do they compare to the 1.3l?

Also i so rarely truly use the 5th gear in my 1.3l , i think in most cases the desire to swap the 4 speed to a 5 speed is purely motivated by the psychological number rather than the need.

so the only thing you wish to acheive is lower revs? Forget it.

Suzuki builds them to rev. That is what they are designed to do. By adding a 5th you will be labouring the motor at lower revs, and will most likely use more fuel and wear the clutch out prematurely from having to shift from 5th to 4th all the time.

My LJ80 with an F10a revs out to like 5300rpm or something at 100km/h. I don't drive it that fast because of the poor engines screaming. However it gets notably better economy than my Sierra with a 1.6 EFI motor. Something around 12km/L compared to about 10.5...

Only put a 5th gear in if you put 4.8 diffs in or something along those lines :D

So can the maruti box be installed into a LJ81? My 81 has lj50 centers front and rear and with 750x16showles like a dog at 100.
