Seeing every second 4wd on the road has sunraysia rims, i'm wondering why nobody offers lightweight alloy versions?

The old Sierra weighs about as much as a bag full of cats, so surely knocking off a few kilos off each wheel would be an easy performance gain.

It'd also be nice to have rims that didn't rust at the first glance of a beach.


Am I just not looking in the right place, or do alloy Sunraysia's not exist?

Not into fancy rims, I like the Sunraysias myself.

I just know through other car projects that the more rotating weight you remove, the faster (and more economical) a car will become. Just surprised I can't find any alloy options.

the stud pattern, why make alloy wheels when there is 3 4wd that can fit them and they are all tight arses

Unsprung weight.

If you look at wrecker's for F100 4wd rim's, or you could buy new.

Removing ROTATING weight will improve performance.
Removing unsprung weight will improve suspension dynamics IE: HANDLING.

There are a few different alloys out there that are light and will bolt onto a Sierra but you don't really want light alloys on a 4WD.

I have seen alloys in a VERY similar pattern to Sunraysia's but can't find a pic anywhere... I think they might have been specially made for boat trailers.

The main problem with alloys on a 4wd is when you start getting rock rash, scratches and big marks on them .

You just spent over $200 each on some nice alloys, and then after the first trip out they look like they just escaped the battle of the Somme... you won't be happy

BUT, if they were cheap $50 a pop steelies that can be panel beaten back into shape if needed, who gives a crap! As far as I'm concerned my offroad rims and tyres will only last as long as each other, when the tyres wear out, the rims will get binned anyway (if they last that long even).


For the record I do have a set of alloys, but I don't use them offroad
