from what I've been told, 4.16:1's are probably best for 31" tired on a sierra, as 6.5:1 are to much and more suited to 32" and bigger.

Does anyone know a reputable brand and model number for a set of 4.16:1 crawler gears? Eg. this is the model and manufacturer of 6.5:1 trail gear gears.

# Model: 105004-3-KIT
# Manufactured by: Trail Gear

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Mate i went through the same problem when i was looking at getting gears for running 31's. I ended up going with the 6.5's on the advise of people from here, and I'm glad i did. They are pretty much perfect for onroad driving, make the car sit at about 3500 to 3600rpm at 100, and are Awesome offroad
The only thing i can fault with them is that i can be a bit annoying having to stop and change back into high range when you need to go faster between two sections. Max speed in lowrange is about 35-30ks without redlining

And definatly go trailgear, and get them from Low Range Offroad. Even with shipping, it worked out about $200 cheaper to get them from there

I wouldn't go 4.16s with 30s...

If you want the best on-road gearing to bring things back into line with stock then I'd suggest 4.9 gears with 31s...

Go the 6.5s - they are cheaper than the other sets, and way more awesome.
They are so cool they will allow you to impregnate women from over 300m!

Ahhh ok, well at the advice of other i was steering away from 6.5's... but if its brings it back close to standard (i'm stock now and i do 100 @ 3500rpm) then thats perfect.

i feel that mine isn't low enough with 6.5s and 31's, i would like to go 4.1 diff gears as well.
but then my 31's are a heavy tyre.

Neg, not on the road. Mine's exactly 3600rpm at 100k's (GPS) with true 31's, which is perfect because you'll need a bit of extra torque to orvercome the additional resistance of bigger mud tires.

6.5's sound awesome then :) i like a slow controlled approach too :D

Also, a mate was saying don't waste your money on gears, just get a 1lt case.. whats everyone's thoughts on this?

Yeah instead of getting brand new gears with a great warranty, chuck in a 30 year old transfer case...

your mate sounds like he knows fuck all about anything worthwhile!

6.5s will be pretty low with 31's. they will be HEAPS better than the gears you have though.
diff gears are your other choise here for maybe a slightly better ratio but putting tranfer gears in is easier.

The 1 lt box is good if your looking for a cheap fix to get a VERY VERY little extra. The 1 lt box is good for standard tires and mabey up to 29s. What I am saying is if you have one sitting around and it wont cost you anything then yes put it in till you get your 6.5s.

Tell him to eat your ass with a spoon.

The 6.5s made my car really driveable, it was a slug before, now it is almost like a normal car.
