[Highway-Star]

OK at risk of sounding like a complete noob here, do LJ's have a shifter bush/seat/sheet? (heard so many names for them...)

Thing is, non of the LJ transfers I've pulled apart appear to have one, they all shift fine, and the Suzuki parts catalogue doesn't list one

Oh and if they are supposed to have one, is it the same as an SJ part?

I have 2 trasfr's here, 1 w/t 1 n/t, neither have a shifter bush & both select & arn't sloppy.

I have been thinking the same thing, different model's, same thing..

From what I have gathered the SJ part no. is
29541-80051

My Sierra never used to have one, and it was OK. When I put the transfer gears in it, I put one in, and it made it shift alot firmer.

One of them, but mine has nothing in it, just a spring & the top retainer.

I may get one just for the hell of it & see how much difference it make's..

I have 3, just remembered a delivery i had last night, will go pull the stick out & see what's there.. the other 2 have nothing, the w/t one was trying to run on mud tho!

I don't think you should, you should do up a part's list of the bit's you do make, most of the time I forget you make bit's & just get new gen one's..

No, the LJ transfer cases never had a replaceable bush under the transfer lever. The seat was machined direct into the aluminium of the front case, and the steel locating pins are cast into the sides and cannot be replaced. Although splash lubricated from the gear oil, the steel lever would eventually wear into the softer alloy. On a transfer case that has seen a bit of use, this becomes a weak point and either requires major surgery, or replacement of the front case.

Many moons ago (early 80's), Super Suzy in Qld used to do exchange front housings with the alloy seat milled out and a spherical seat bronze bush put in place, and the cast pins drilled out and Sierra threaded pins put in. I have no idea who would do the same sort of work these days, it might have to be a one off job with an engineering shop.

I have a supersuzi transfer box in the shed I will dig it out and post some picks for you Highway_Star. Supersuzi also did exchange boxes with either higher or lower gearing depending on what you required.
