Post subject:  Theft appeal of a zook?
I'm not willing to pay insurance (bar the CTP with rego), and there's nothing really in my car to steal, but I leave my car in the City/Valley overnight quite a bit and if you have a five cent piece you're only a twist of the wrist from being inside my car. My only theft preventative is a massive 'Risk of Explosion' sticker on the LPG tank that's hard to miss - just to make people think twice about taking it for a joy ride.

Just wondering if anyone else has had their wheels stolen or broken into? Although my car is largely a piece of shit - it's MY piece of shit, and i'd be spewing if it ever disappeared or got trashed... i'm quite fond of the little bugger.

Justcar insurance did a full comp quote for me (21yr old p plater) with agreed value (around $4000). think it was 900 a year... this was nearly 500 cheaper then anywhere else accept nrma who did fully comp for 500 but only $1500 agreed value (hardly agreed, they just told me that) Point is, you could probably get something cheaper (i'm assuming your older then me, dunno why) for a decent value and it would be 4 - 5 years before the insurance out weighed the value of the car... but its also handy so that if anything ever does happen... you have $4000 to buy another car... just some food for thought.

having a soft top, i usually leave the doors unlocked. saves for the arseholes that think a knife to the soft top will be quicker than unzipping.

on the city/valley thing, the previous owner of my spook told me he used to park in the valley quite often and he said that the most common problem he had was finding people asleep in the back of his car. :P

as its commonly said, if someone wants to steal your car bad enough, they will. most professional car thieves would be more concerned with a VL commo or an XF falcon with a big stereo (personal experience). the average idiot looking for a joyride will be stopped in his tracks by the basics like club lock or killswitch.

Another simple and very effective way is to get a removable bosskit. It's a bit tricky to drive with no steering wheel. :)

I just renewed my third party, fire and theft for the zuk... its was $210 for the year... fark all...

When I left my old zuk in the city in Adelaide, the biggest problem was dickheads snapping cb antennas... so remove them if you are leaving it around drunk punks.

It's not worth the fuck around if anythig happens.. Like if someone hits me or if I hit someone..

Especially if someone hits me without insurance. It's a butch to try and get money out if them.. But with insurance it's the companies problem..

Plus any bad damage offroad and she is all fixed up.

i have a immoboliser in my car if the immoboliser is switched on the car wont start if some how it does the car will switch off around 2kms down the road i found this out when i bought the car as it was always stoping on the side of the road

The problem is do you think they'd pay out with your 31's on? That's always been my concern with getting the zuk insured. Pay 25-50% of it's value each year only to have the claim rejected because we run tyres the same size or smaller than most other manufacturers run stock.

x2, couldn't agree more. i had 3rd party fire theft in lieu of comp i saved 220 a year. Woohoo. Boy was i wrong - one truck side swiped me, 100 % his fault, 5 months later i'm still chasing the s.o.b. If i had comp, car would have been paid out already, i wouldn't have a massaged fairlane sitting in the back yard, and RACQ would be harassing him.

My count so far is 2. One even involved a large patrol driving half way over a ford laser because i had 36's and insurance paid out. he lost his license because of defects but insurance paid.

I'm paying $340 a year for full comp, agreed value ($6K) on the ute.

There is no way I would drive without atleast 3rd party insurance.....

I have 3rd party on the zook with Shannons. I disclosed all my mods, and told em it only goes out 1-2 times per month.

$180 for a bit of peace of mind.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter how shit your car is, if you run up the back of a Ferrari its gonna cost ya!

Only suziblu does not carry full comprehensive, and she carrys 3rd party property fire and theft.

As far as a Suzuki's theft appeal is concerned, IMO a $30-60 steering wheel lock easily fixes that.

As far as comprehensive vs. 3rd party insurance is concerned, I called about 6 different insurers after quotes on both 3rd party and comprehensive policies, then found through NRMA a coily Sierra was cheaper to be insured comprehensively then 3rd party with fire and theft...

That's good to hear. Mine doesn't get a lot of road duties and the 31's are about the only thing they would pick but I'd be lying if I said I don't worry about it when I'm driving to the tracks.

The wife has 6 yrs experience in motor insurance as a claims officer. According to her, any and all insurers are likely to "try it on" re denying a claim due to undisclosed mods, but if you take the claim to the Insurance Ombudsman Service (which you can do at no cost to yourself if no resolution is reached with the insurer) then it costs the insurer a few thou to have the claim heard, and it is their responsibility to prove to the tribunal that the mods caused the accident. More $$$ they need to spend. With a Zook they just wouldn't bother ... if pushed hard enough, it's cheaper for them to pay it out than to fight it.

Rolling on a corner at speed with BL, 2" springs and 31s would have me nervous though... tribunal may well not require an engineer's report re cause in an instance like that. Standard 2 car accidents at low speed shouldn't be a problem though.

I'd say the coroner would be looking at the engineer's report not the tribunal.
