I lost a rear mudflap on Bribie somewhere today, might be a good idea to replace it ASAP to help defend the underside against beach corrosion.

So far, I can't find the right size or shape to fit the rear (i'm guessing 8" is the right width?). Apart from the super-wide truck mudflaps, all the options I can find are way shorter than the standard part... i'm not sure if there's any mudflap legalities I have to obey here, either.

Should I just trim what I can find to fit, or are there OEM parts available?

i've heard stories of people getting a ticket for having no mudflaps, or mainly that there is too much tyres exposed. I think they said your mud flaps can't be more than 30cm from the ground. But i wasn't there so i don't know, but it sounds reasonable.

There was a thread on Outers where Athol (engineer) stated offroad vehicles must have mud flaps covering full width of tyre and not more than 300mm from the ground.

What I want to know is if that applies for front mud flaps as well? Most large fourbies have them from stock on the front but it's difficult to fit anything on a Sierra...

I cut my rears out of 6mm reinforced rubber from Clarks. Not cheap at $40 for 1m x 300mm though...

here ya go :lol: done by previous owner and worked until i put wide track diffs in it.
also the only mudflap on the car :oops: :lol:

I have 2 square meters of rubber mating lying around that I should put to good use. I'm going to copy your idea shep. I will post up tomorrow if I finish them.

I have made a mould for mud flaps if ya need any. I can make them out of Polyurethane. I make them for Casper all the time.

OK I'll have to take some pics :-)
Won't be for a day or 2 sorry.
Not sure on price, never really thought of it. I just got one I had on Casper and made a mould. The joys of runnig polyurethane shop. :-)

why??? lol

the front wont need mudflaps if your flares cover the tyres... which is a legal thing. If the vehicle didnt come standard with front mud flaps you dont need to have them on there.

My rubber flares (added onto the WT flares) cover the tyre and do a dam good job of stopping mud flying up (unless i have the wheel turned).

I actually dont like my rear mud flaps cos every time i bloody reverse up a large rock etc i rip one of the buggers off and have to replace it! sucks. lol

The flares do a piss poor job and I don't won't crap sprayed up the side of my car cos I'm lazy and don't want to wash it. :P

Off to clark rubber now, maybe Bunnings if I need to.

What's the best way to cut the rubber - stanley knife or my elec jigsaw? Never worked with rubber before, but I don't want em to come out looking like a half arsed effort

lol how odd - mine would then not comply with the ADR and technically would need mud flaps up front - yet through all the engineering and inspection stages it never came up! They prolly had as little idea of that regulation as i did =) haha

As for cutting the rubber - use a stanley and a steel ruler, and do it in lots of light pressure cuts to get through it. That should give a very nice, clean edge. You can also use a very coarse grit paper to smooth it out afterwards for that factory finish =)

i just spent so much on them at supercrap like 40$ im going to return them and go to Clark rubber and follow sheps idea as i was look at it and there is no where to mount them and had the same idea as shep and was thinking a lill shiny Chane to bling them up and pull attention away from the shackles to the shiny flaps.

sorry this is the best i've got...

the straps came from Clarke Rubber along with the rubber for the flares/flaps.

to make them adjustable, the end with the buckle attached is bolted to the bumper, with a short length of the strap.

then the left over strap was cut down to suit & is bolted to the flaps. to put the holes in the straps i used a soldering iron to melt it & stop it from fraying. when trimming the straps, i melted the end with a lighter.
