Hey joeblow - you seem to be the master of Vit carbies on Sierras. I've seen you mention a couple of times that you've done a writeup on fitting one to a Sierra and tweaking it for reliability and performance. I've just read through your 1756 posts and can't find a writeup!!! Could you do a bit of a writeup for us? What's needed, what's no longer connected, what 'tweaks' can be done to the carby, whether it needs rejetting and what typical gains there are in performance and reliability?
My Aisin is behaving itself at the moment but it has given me heaps of headaches in the past and the wax choke is on its last legs, so I need to do something with it soon... Cheers |

I read through the first 65 pages of his posts a few weeks back and found nothing.... was still another 50 or so to go and by that time I couldn't be farked. oh wait, I did find something... him saying several times 'I've done a writeup and not going to post it all again' |

its here somewhere, but may be part of someone elses thread..... what carby do you have?....does it have the 2 fuel lines comming out of the foot pump (accelerator pump) on the side of the carby? you need to hook up 2 wires to ignition. one for the cut off and the other for the bowl vent solenoid on the side of the carby (has 3 screws on its cap). the little black thing on the throttle linkage is a tps and is not needed, discard it. hook up vacuum as much as the original sierra as possible, tap into other lines if needed. the breather comming out of the carby can be tapped into the charcoal canister line or with a little fuel line and a fuel filter on the end. the two lines comming out of the foot pump are.....top is fuel return, run this to your return line on your chassis. bottom is fuel feed (don't confuse it with fuel feed for the main carby bowl). this should be plumbed into the return off the FUEL PUMP. your main feed then goes to the bowl. they all run rich, chuck it on a gas ANALiser |

Are these the 2 return lines that you mentioned?
what is this one for (to the upper right)
and this one? (center of the pic) It's on the rocker cover side of the carb

I spent $1100 on a carby rebuild and dynoing it, and i still have eratic idle, and it bugs me, this is sierra carby btw. Is there any power gain in doing this, like webber power or is it just a more reliable carby? Im dead set keen on a TBI setup but im not really ready money wise, is this a good option? cheers |

$1100 would have gone along way to getting TBI |

I know that now. But im on my P's and i can't change the motor anymore till im on my blacks. spewin that the government can't let a sierra owner have more reliability.... |

it is prob the bigger cam you put in, you need a vac guage and to see id the vac is constant. if it is its the carby or air leak if not its the cam |

i have a 1.6 sierra and have thrown the carby in the wheelie bin. i have put on a weber and after sorting out jet sizes and float level it is awesome. no flooding on angles even with the bowl at the front and better fuel economy. my mate runs one on his 1.3 lwb also. |
