Fitted some Monroe GT shocks to the Zook with the RUF. Took it offroad for the first time on Sunday and banged my rear shocks up bad - they have plenty of clearance at rest but have been hitting on the brake line mounts under compression as the shackle flattens out and the diff moves back.

Most of the damage is to the dust cap with only a very slight (maybe 2mm at most) dent in the reserve tube of the shock, which I can't imagine has affected the pressure tube at all. Can I just run a cutting wheel around the top of the dust protector and throw it? If so then I'll do that, space them out a couple of mil at the bottom mount and be done with it.

Shocks are these ones. The bit I've dented up bad is the bit with the "Monroe GT Gas" sticker on it - hoping I can just cut it off up near the top of the shock.

Soooo... next question. If I cut the dust protector off, is there any reason why I couldn't / shouldn't run them inverted? Just that then the shock body will be up out of the way of the diff and there will be heaps of clearance between the shock piston and the diff...

are they the eye to eye shocks?

will they cavitate upside down.... i don't know?

Yep eye to eye.

Found my answer. "The difference is that a mono-tube shock absorber can be mounted upside down or right side up and it will work either way. *NOTE A conventional two-tube shock absorber must be mounted somewhat vertically."

Taken from Monroe's website. Mine's a two tube shock so has to be mounted right way up.
