just chasing abit of info, ive done a disc rear brake conversion and curently have a manual adjust preportioning valve.

it looks a bit messy and i want to try and get my set up complienced.

i have heard subaru forester m/c will fit on but was wondering if the valving of them is better suited to the rear discs so i can piss the preportioning valve off?

cheers
Chris

Yes, they are better proportioned, but whether it is "right" or not will depend on your setup. We have a bunch of them running on sierras with sierra calipers front and rear and they are little bit too biased to the rear, especially with a SWB. My extended LWB (100") is fine and doesn't lock the rear first, but that's because I have very limited dive under brakes compared to a SWB.

If you have different calipers it might be better. I'm not convinced the back would lock first on tarmac in any case, but I've noticed the rears locking a bit too quickly on SWB cars offroad.

Anyone know if the Liberty one is the same??

Depends on the model I guess.

The reason the forester GT M/C is used is because it's the biggest "bolt in" cylinder available - 1 1/16" I checked against the cylinder in my DD and it's the same size as the cylinder used with the Brembo brakes in the STi.

I'm sure other variants are smaller bore. There's no real problem with this - smaller bore = more pedal travel but less travel effort.

My Forester GT cylinder is running unboosted (I'm in a 1.0 litre) and I could probably do with changing the pivot point - I have an awesome pedal but effort is quite high.

Early models are what you need from memory. Piston bore is 1 1/18th I think. It will bolt up to the existing sierra booster but will need the pushrod length to be adjusted or maybe replaced with a longer one. As they are already set up for 4 wheel discs there is no static pressure in the rear lines. You will have to bend the sierra hard lines as the Forester brake line outlets are in different positions to the Sierra one.

The setup I was looking at when I had my sierra was to run LWB Vitara disc and callipers on the front (Vented disc and bigger calliper and Pad surface area) and sierra or Pintara rear callipers. Sierra callipers require handbrake on the transfer where as Pintara callipers have a park brake built into the calliper.

I never got to fit the Forester Master as I parted the sierra out before I collected all the bits.

They still require some proportioning with sierra rear calipers.

just out of curiosity - why run sierra calipers when there's other options?

point of note - i'm running the JML floater kit in the back of mine with pintara calipers and jimny front rotors (handbrake cable is swift GTI) - i've got no proportioning issues at all and running the stock sierra M/C.
