I recon it would do the job, But only just, 4700lbs is only about 2.1 tons,

Sure a zook weight nothing close to that, But one you add weight of passengers, gear in the cab, the steal winch plate/bull bar, dual batteries etc (guess you will be running em if you have a winch) you will be close to 1 1/2 tonn that is ofcourse going on the assumption that a zook's kerb weight is 930kg as redbook states.


1 1/2 ton still isnt 2.1 tonn, tru, But you also wouldnt be using a winch to pull yourself along a nice flat the road, U will usually be using it because your bogged, And if you have all four wheels down to the axles in mud or sand, you will be adding alot of extra weight to what the winch has to pull, so lets just assume ur down to the axels in mudd and have no traction with your wheels you will defiantly be pulling very close to that 2.1 tons.


that said if the spool can handle a long length of rope, and you can double up with a snatch block back to the car/chassis on those tricky situations (deep bogs), you will have something like twice the pulling power ( i think) that is why i think i will do the job, But i wouldnt be bothering unless it was a very good price, and imo 400 isnt a verry good price. even for a warn.

Permanant magnet motors don't have the same capacity as a series wound motor and I reckon if it was constantly loaded up to its rated pulling capacity you will find the motor won't last long. Warn shit is expensive to replace.

If the winch is rated to 2.1T, that means it should be able to pull 2.1T off the ground into the air (like in "The Gods must be Crazy").

I think in most situations it would be fine, unless you had to recover something bigger, which to be honest are the ones who usually get stuck anyway.

Get 9500lbs as a minimum I reckon.
