Hey guys how do i undo the crankshaft bolt on my sierra we have tried impact gun, jarring the head of the bolt with a hammer, have tried jarring the bolt with a spanner and hammer and have also wound the motor over with a long break over bar and nothing has moved. Heating the bolt is a last option 
Any advise would be greatly appreciated Thanks Trent |

what size rattle gun did you use? i needed a big one which we bought from supercheap for like 70$ the size up from what comes with the normal supercheap one. not the best quality but very rarely used so does the trick |

Don't known Dad uses it when he was working as a machanic it will snap wheel studs if your not carefull |

put a scoket and breaker bar on it. position it so it will hit chassis rail and than crank motor. do a few flicks first give it a good hit with hammer and also spray |

Breaker bar on it, go get a long piece of metal pipe. Slot the pipe over the bar for added leverage! |

I find it hard to believe that you have put a breaker bar from the bolt head to the chassis and cranked the engine over with the key, that is a hell of a lot of torque, enough to snap the bolt head off. Take the lead out of the coil so it doesnt start, have the end of the bar 5-6 inches off the chassis and then try, watch you don't get your fingers caught. |

i couldnt get mine off by cranking it with a breaker bar either i used heat and then a big rattlegun to get it off, still took me 2 weeks of trying shit to get it off. There is heaps of locktite on there |

On a Civic i had a 2Metre breaker bar.. Engine torque was not enough. 1.6efi.. |

Take the lead out of the coil so it doesnt start, have the end of the bar 5-6 inches off the chassis and then try, watch you don't get your fingers caught. x2, pull the plugs and get 50 odd degrees of run up, might take a few goes but it will get it you need fast hard hits to undo bolts, applying massive force with large bars and pipes are how bolts snap, then you really are screwed |

Well we got it off, took two men and a 2m long breaker bar. Broke an engine mount just before it came undone. I'll put picks up soon. Was crazy tight. Just wanna thank Trent & Peter for helping me.

I originally had it in low range, standing on the brake. That didn't work so we took out spark plug on cylinder no.1 and put rope in the to lock it up. |

Why are you undooing the crankshaft bolt anyway, out of interest... I can't think of many reasons to take it out... |

Oil seal maybe? I like that it doesn't have to come off for the timing belt

So we can get the crankshaft gear off to replace the oil seal that was leaking |

Yep oil seal, and I did the timing belt at the same time. |

you dont put it in low range, that makes it easier to turn the driveline, 5th gear high range is the way to go |
