hey fellas was doing some reaserch on 6.5s and came across some info that said that the inside of the case needs to be slightly grindered out to have the gears fit properly is that fact or fiction ???? and could yas let me no any other problewms that have been had with them cheers buzzy |

Fact, but it's not a huge amount that has to be taken out. If you do run the 6.5's you will deffinately need a better transfer mounting system. The standard set up won't last long at all, with any reduction. |

don't worry about grinding out the case, it's that small an amout the hardened gears will grind away at the alloy case in no time giving the perfect amount of clearance without taking too much weakening the case. |

I guess whether you can "machine by laziness" or not will depend on whose gears you are using. From memory I couldn't reassemble my case until I'd done the grinding - there was too much interference. That was with Trail Tough gears in a NT case |

That was with Trail Tough gears in a NT case I had the same experience... got my gears from low range. You NEED to grind a poofteenth out of both sides of the case. I used a die grinder, too easy. I also had to grind a bit away from the webbing on the outside of the case at the filler plug section to get my "snatch" cradle to fit. |

Yeah but what a sound it makes while doing it, and if you do it like this instead of grinding a bit off the cases then you should probably drop the oil to flush out the aluminum shavings that will most certainly circulate and inside the case when in operation. Will go through bearings and eventually bearings will fail. Go the trim I did and its all good, only takes a couple of minutes David |

I ran (I say ran cause its currently off the road) standard mounting on my tcase for 5 years and in that time I broke 1 genuine mount (when I got stuck and was giving it to it on a rock face) and 1 aftermarket mount (which I assume was of an inferior quality as it broke on the first outing) |

Anybody who has actually installed the 6.5 gears knows the case must be ground to fit the gears , be careful not to grind too much or you will end up with a oil leak , you will need to beef up your mounts , which costs bugger all compared to replacing the gears , the bigger the tyre , the more solidly mounted it needs to be , they tend to rotate and tear , snap mounts in tghe heat of the moment , Cheers Paul. |
