Have you tried switching leads 2 and 3, turning the car over until it fires, revving to about 2500rpm and letting it backfire into the carby a few times? Will help clear out any crap in the idle jet that could be stuffing your idle. I've had to do it twice in the last couple of weeks due to crud that made it past both fuel filters. Just remember to swap the leads back when you're finished

Pretty sure that pipe is for when the diaphram in the fuel pump craps itself it lets the fuel out that pipe?

That sounds like the something that pipe would do.
My sierra's been doing this for ages now, won't idle very often
and when it does idle it runs like it's got a huge cam.

I would say the first step with an idle like that is to check *everywhere* round the carby and manifold for a vacuum leak. More than likely there is one there somewhere...

yeh i just replaced every vacuum hose, and found a few leaks, But everything is fresh and air tight.
I have a video of it starting up here
http://s561.photobucket.com/albums/ss57 ... G_0062.flv
choke is opening up and there is no fuel blockage, Im going to get an exchange carby and get a pro tuneup. but in order to do that i need to be able to drive there!
so what would make it go from idling great, to this.
the video is a cold start, But even when warm she will die, just the same.

Will it rev or does it still die? If so, try taking off the fuel line where it meets the carby ... it's a metal tube line with a banjo joint at the end of it, and when you take the bolt and banjo off there should be a metal wire gauze filter there. It's last line of defence against nasties in the fuel system. I had mine starving for fuel at one point and that was what it was - would get enough fuel through into the bowl while cranking to run for a few seconds but soon drained the bowl and died.
Easy to check fuel filter - just take the soft fuel line off the carby, put it into an empty coke bottle or similar and turn it over on the key for a few secs. If you've got enough fuel to swish around the bottom of the bottle after say 5 seconds then there's enough fuel getting through the filter and pump.

Zook carbies have an idle cut off solenoid IIRC. Have you checked that it's not stuck closed?

Electric, the plug will be at the front of the carb

way too tired to bother going out and looking ... had this photo stored under my 'Zook' --> 'Carby' folder so presuming it's the stock Aisin carb. If so I'm pretty sure the idle cut off solenoid is the bit I've circled. Don't rely on that too much though!
EDIT: Actually then again that could be the idle up solenoid. I dunno. Sorry mate - I'm out!
Up top of this photo ... bit easier to locate from above.

That's the one, should have battery voltage on it with ing on.
the wire that is. not the carby.

OK so that actuator is working properly, Not an issue with that,
Now the actuator on the fast idle how ever doesnt apear to be working, the reason i say this is because when current is applied (using mutlimeter to read it) it is not pushing out and holding it, I could just slip my finger in a push. but when i do this current goes away.
i dont think this is related, But if someone knows for fact that actuator is not functioning please let me know.
Now the other finding is quite strange.
i start the car, and she idles fine, thinking WTF this isnt right i get in to pull into the shed and gave it a little rev to get into the shed. and she died once stopped.
so i left it for about a minute came back started it idled fine. Reved it just a bit, and started to die as shown in the video.
replaced the fuel filter too and checked with just cranking the fuel line into a cup. And plently of fuel, Infact i think it might have been tooo much for what the duration of what i cranked.
Just wondering if anyone thinks this could be a issue with too much fuel being delivered. I have noticed a little bit of smoke coming out today....
but please suggest anything that i should check. as i reallly wanna make the most of this Sunday as its the last weekend i have off untill i go to Europe next year!!! im as said im dropping it into a carby specialist next week sometime, But i just want it to run so i can go wheel this weekend.
thanks alot

ok well i think i fixed it, Well sort of, the chock plate was sticking open and was leaning it out too much, So i adjusted the plastic cog thing and it now isnt stalling, But instead sticking on 2000 revs! so im getting closer but still a bit to go.
even if i can just get it down to 1300 revs ill be happy enough to take it on the road...
any ideas?
