Went for a run today with some newly fitted 6.5's and for the first time ever, my zook blew smoke (grey oil smoke). Previously she hasn't blown a whisper of smoke so i'd like to diagnose the problem so I can get it sorted asap.

After coming down a steep hill where the car has been engine braking with no throttle, once at the bottom and thottle is applied, lots of grey smoke comes out but after about 20-30sec it clears up and there isn't a hint of smoke thereafter. It only happens after engine braking and no other time. I'm thinking valve guides but would like to see what others think.

If it is the valve guides, what's the best method for replacing them? Is it a head-off job? And if so, is it worth getting the head reconditioned whilst it's off?

Cheers,
Jimmy.

Hate to say it but this is how things started off for me.

I did the valve stem seals. http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... pic&t=7451

Didn't stop the smoke issue. :( Ended up doing a full rebuild. Still a bit smokey but heaps better.

Good luck.

I did the same, pulled the head off, sent it out and got it rebuilt. Didn't help the smoke at all. Took the motor out and had it rebuilt and no more smoke!
Its not cheap but should keep it going for few more years.

Poop.

I think I'll drive it until it blows all the time and then I'll put a 1.6efi in. Thanks lads.
