Post subject:  Vitara Fuel & Temp gauge

I have refurbished the instrument custer in my 88 Vitara with new globes, fixed a few broken plastic bites etc.. Anyway to get to the guts I removed the fascia - to do this I needed to remove the needles !... RPM and SPEED are fine however the Fuel and Temp are an issue (now anyway) .. neither read any value... I think they work on a viscus type meter so their reading is held when the engine is off (fuel is not sure about temp) .. I think I may have altered the rest point when replacing the needles ... so I stuffed them up ! - Has anyone got any experience with these - ie how to reset them ???

You will need to get a copy of the Vitara Manual which should give the empty and full resistance for both guages.

If the Vitara is the same as the Sierra the temp is

50 C - 133.9 to178.9 ohms
80 C - 47.5 to 56.8 ohms
100 C - 26.2 to 29.3 ohms

Fuel is

Empty - 110 +/- 7 ohms
!/2 - 32.5 +/- 4 ohms
Full - 3 +/- 2 ohms

You will need to set the needle at full or 100 C first then check the positions in between
