Can I fit one of my 215/75/15's on the back door mount without mods, or is the spare tyre undersize for a reason?

You can fit any size tyre on the back door.

Its whether your hinges will last is another question.

Sometimes stock tyre size spares are enough to make the thin metal body behind the hinge rip, and fall off making it hard to repair.. Do you do much offroad?

+1 my tyre carrier is cracking from just the stock tyre on it.

I've never actually kept the spare on the back door. The car is so light i'm guessing i'd be pretty hard up to have a blow out on a Sierra.

I go off road about once a forntight lately, but nothing to really push the limits of the little mountain goat... just beaches and park trails.

i have a 215 on my rear door but its a hard top

it holds it find i had a 31 o it fora day to see how it would sit it held but i wouldnt leave it on with out reinforcing it

I run mine bolted to the floor with the original hangar. Back seats are out though.

Thin metal body on mine was stronger than the hinge!!! The bloody pin broke through on the hinge!! Quality!

i ran a stock tyre on the back of mine when i had 215/75's and it cracked the door under the top hinge... since then i've not run a spare at all. lol

not too hard to get a swing away carrier made though, or like others suggest - chuck it in the back and strap it down.

many years of a 31 on the back both hard and soft top with no cracks, guess I just had my suspension sorted better than you lot

lol no - that means you DIDNT have your suspension sorted cos it was too mushy =)

Then again, how often do you drive it?

31 fitted on mine with the standard bumper, but then I made a new bumper, and made it sit higher...... hence had to cut the spare bracket up and reweld it so tyre sat higher....

Anyway, been there like 3 years, and my tailgate is still fine, and the hinges are still fine.... backed into a few trees with the spare tyre. and the tailgate is still fine

i had a 32x11.5 bfg mt on my old sierra for over a year no dramas at all except for getting it snagged a few times doin some cool shit but never damaged the mounts or tailgate. just check it for any rust corrosion etc.

My 215 stands up behind the pass seat to try and fix the lean
door was cracked when i got the car.
