I used the magical search button, found one thread where Royce had said this It was some ancient thread from 2008 with 2 posts, so i thought i'd refrain from grave digging "the vitara rear centre wont you can get the front 26 spline diff from a vitara from about 92 on and put that in the rear of a sierra but tis an alloy housing so wont lst very long I am not sure if you can take the 22 spline front diff from an 88-92 vitara and fit that to the front of a sierra, but once again its alloy so not strong at all you can swap the gears themself in to a sierra centre though" So what i'm reading, is if i get a 93+ Vitara Front, swap the R+P and planetry assembly into my 90 WT Sierra Diff Housing, it WILL work?? And if i get a 88-92 Vitara Front, swap the R+P and planetry assembly into my 90 WT Sierra Diff Housing, again it WILL work?? |

Mud racers sometimes use a higher ratio in the front, apart from that, it is bad news. |

I never actually thought anyone would alter front and rear ratios, unless in extremely slippery country it would only bind up the transfer case to explosion. Even an odd size tyre can stuff things. |

Even better than different ratios, a mate of mine had a great idea for a 4WD burnout car. Put the front diff in upside down. Drive to the pad in 2WD. Put it in 4WD and let her rip. She'll just about stand still and the rears spin one way and the fronts the other, should make for great viewing

I have 5.12's... i dont think they are worthwhile... they are too low in 2H and not low enough in 4L... I'm running them with 31's atm. When money permits, i'll be going to 3.9's and 4:16.1 or 6:5.1 tcase gears. Just my 2 cents. Cheers. |

So reductions gears would make it too low... and already, my max with a 1.6 is about 100Km/h because it just revs its tits off. haha so i cant go any lower in high  ...
100Km/s on the taco for me is actually 80Km/h actual speed. So thats a Give or take 20% reduction in high... you just dont see that in low though unless you have the tcase to back it up... Hence why i want to go to 3.9's and reduction gears... |

Is it around 30%. I had 4.8 centres with 31" tires and got about 20% reduction. bigger the tire, less reduction. |

Vit/GV front centres come in 22 or 26 spline versions and a variety of gear ratios, the Sierra uses 22 spl in the front diff and 26 in the rear diff. None of the Sierra ratios are the same as the Vit/GV options, so you will need to find 2 Vit/GV's with identical ratios to replace BOTH the Sierra diffs at the same time. |

I think there are two vitaras at the wreckers with both their diffs. so as long as I get both ring and pinions from the front and back I will be aright. im assuming the front vit will go in front sierra etc. how hard is it to replace just the ring and pinion? its my dd and I need it to get to work. is it something I can do in a day without fucking up with basic tools? I have never seen a diff center before. |

You want TWO Vit front diffs... When you get them home you strip the crownwheel and pinion shafts out and then fit them into Sierra carriers using all Sierra hemisphere bits... |

You need 2 sets of Vit fronts. And if you have never played with a diff before then i'd advise you to get someone that has to set them up otherwise they will be very noisy and not last very long. Diffs need to be set right and getting it just right is very difficult without the right tools. |
