Post subject:  replacement carby?
anyone got any suggestions for a replacement for the stock aisin carb on an 85 sierra? preferably one without all of the vacuum crap all over it, pain in the arse, my vacuum pot for the secondary is shot, it wont pull back the lever which allows the secondary butterfly to open.

i cant really say much i have driven the car as far as around my block from what i did drive with the 1.3 and webber and 31" muddys it felt like it had more power then my 1.6 engine and carby in my stock coily. other people i have spoken to them and say love em just offroad they can starve at steep angles or over fuel depending where your fuel bowl sits.

i have tried over the years just about every carby and carby arrangment you could think of. the last, best performing on and off road, and most simple to hook up and stock looking was the vitara carby......then i went efi.

i have tried over the years just about every carby and carby arrangment you could think of. the last, best performing on and off road, and most simple to hook up and stock looking was the vitara carby......then i went efi.

efi would be nice, i just dont want to spend heaps of $$$$$ at the moment, later on maybe

what kind of price would be reasonable for a weber kit? there is a guy from gem spares on ebay asking 450 for the kit with adapter, air filter, etc. is there a lot of mucking around with airboxes, etc??????

whats the constant thing about em being complex?

the vacuum is there to open the choke when you thrash it cold, to alter the idle mixture to idle hot, to open the secondary jsut enough when you thrash it, he rest is for other stuff like vacuum advance and idle speed under electrical load and on later models change the air intake depending on outside temp

underneath its jsut a 2 barrel downdraft carby, pretty much the same as a weber anyway, oh yeah and anit dieseling solenoid so it doesnt run on

when serviced and set properly it all works fine, its when they get full of crap or arent looked after they go bad, if your secondary actuator isnt working anymore jsut get another one and service the carb and off you go

royce they are all fair comments and good advice thanks, im just trying to get all the info i can as someone new to high revving engines & havent touched a carb for 15 years so just trying to get as many tips n help as i can

hey champ my car came with the carby on it so i wouldnt have a clue on how to install and so forth there is a guy on here with a webber and adapter for like $50 so would just bolt on im guessing. blusuzi has a webber i think he installed or even 2stroker knows allot about them so pm them and ask. sorry i cant help and also it depends with stock air box im buying a stock hat off a sierra carby thats been modified to fit a webber and run the stock air box which is my plan. 09zooky i think just made one and offered to make me one so you could always ask him to make you one. all i have noticed that in the small drive that i loved the webber choppy on here has a webber and rates it as well he said you have to learn to drive it.

Joe what kind of money would a full efi set up cost, it looks like I have to get a replacement carb anyway, nobody can help me out with parts for the secondary & im not keen on spending money on something that is gonna be standard, might as well spend money to get something better, so its gonna be either a vit carb or a 36/36 weber, or if efi wasnt too crazy expensive i would def take your advice & go that way.

or even a weber 32/36 derrrrrrr. get it right shan

No need to choke it down, they work fine the way they are but yes the jetting will have to be dropped quite a bit. It should be a weber 34/34 ADM carb.

you can do a TBI setup bought for the wreckers for about $300. but the brains to hook it up are what might cost you, if i knew my carby rebuild and tune was going to cost over a grand, i would of just out layed for a tbi setup.

not sure what that stands for, but it's a single point injection system. so there is two types muilt point (mpfi) and single point (tbi). Single point uses a carby like mainfold and just gets the air fuel mixture right. But a mulipoint does that but doesn't have a mainfold it just jams the fuel stright in. The muiltpont is obvious to look at and has a bit more power. but the TBI setup looks like a carby and is way less obvious....

search the techchat on here as i asked all about this a little bit ago.... ;)

Throttle Body Injection.

Early style of injection, instead of 1 injector per cylinder, it has a sort of carby and 1 injector, better than a carby, not as good a full injection.
