There are a couple of noises coming from the back of my car that I am not overly comfortable about! I apologise in advance if I use wrong terminology - just trying to sound like I know what I am asking about
97 Coily (shhh) Hardtop:
When taking off at lights, you release the clutch and hear a clunk. This also happens when changing into second. I have jumped under - checked all the uni's and they seem tight as. What does have a bit of play is the 'tailshaft?' (that goes from the back of the transfer into the diff) - you can rotate it a little and kinda replicate that clunk? Can anyone explain to me firstly if this is normal - which ill assume its not, and possible things it could be, and how to check further.
Second thing - which im guessing is un-related is the rotation of the diff. So you have the car on flat ground - push it back and forth so its rocking, if you jump under the car you can see the diff is fixed with the wheels (obviously thus handbrake) but is rotating in relation to the body.
How much of this 'twist' is acceptable (and is there are better name to call it?) I assume the trailing arms are there to stop this, and I should be looking at the bushes? As you can see when you are rocking the car that there is a fair amount of movement. If it is something I should be replacing, how difficult is it to do without a press?
