Post subject:  Some Stockman Questions!?

Hey all, Got my stockman today, Its a 79 model LJ81, So my questions are...

Is this model pretty rare?

I noticed the front axles dont have free wheeling hubs, is the 4wd engaged only from the transfer case?

Do Sierra Axles fit easily?

Sorry for the sill questions, its quite a step down from the Jimny lol

Cheers

Depends what you call rare. Finding a Sierra is easier..... but I managed 2 LJ81's in one weekend :D

No, they are fixed drive flanges, part of the front drums. Basically the same as driving around with FWH's always locked. You can fit Sierra swivel hubs to get FWH's. I did a write-up....lol

Yes they do, but no they don't...
NT diffs will essentially bolt in, but your tailshaft angles will be stuffed up. and the front diff pumpkin will probably hit the chassis rail without some bumpstopping. WT diffs will fit if you NT the spring perches (same as WTing a NT Sierra), but you still have the same issues with tailshafts and the diff pumpkin

Correction, its a step up from a Jimny :P It's an LJ, they are more awesome than any other zook :D

There are a few of these things popping out of the woodwork lately :D . Oh and Pictures please :D

Is this model pretty rare? - I would be very surprised if there are 2 registered LJ81 on the site at this time

I noticed the front axles dont have free wheeling hubs, is the 4wd engaged only from the transfer case? - Yes that is correct but you can modify and fit Sierra free wheel hubs and disc brakes

Do Sierra Axles fit easily? - No not without modification

I have numerous LJ parts so PM me if you need anything.

greenzook89 asked "Is this model pretty rare" and I replied I would be very surprised if there are 2 registered LJ81 on the site at this time

That is the relevance, tell me that 2 of those you mentioned are currently registered and belong to people on this site, so that I can be surprised.

No one is saying they don't exist, no one is saying that there are no project ones being rebuilt. My comment eluded to the fact that on this site at this time there are very, very few registered LJ81's, a point which is actually fact.

There are not that many registered Sierra utes on Auszookers let alone LJ81's.

So is his car rare? depends on how you look at it, there are over 13 million registered cars in Australia, what percentage are Suzuki 4x4s, of them what percentage are utes, and of them what percentage are LJ81's.

By the way tanshi and others if you need parts I just picked up another LJ for wrecking, it has a mad set of cut down half doors, roll bar, big radiator, fibreglass bonnet and front clip, heaps of good bits.

Um... 2stroker, my son is chasing a chassis for one of the UNREGISTERED LJ81's either an LJ or a Sierra one will do him he's pretty resourceful, his is rusty in the caps they put below the rails, cab is off atm so it's easier to replace it than repair. Appreciate any help!
