Hi all,

I have read and heard about some interesting combinations of springs and shockies used in the back of vits i.e. crumpledore shocks/XL7 springs, gemini springs, 180sx springs etc. but are there any strange combinations that can be used effectively in the front?

Does a GV setup provide any extra lift/flex? Any obtuse cars with matching coils/shocks?

Redzook, I've got a '97 V6 LWB Vit.

I'm running standard GV/XL-7 coils with standard KYB struts and a 40mm strut spacer (eventually I will grab some OME or Dobinsons struts, both of which are about 40mm longer than standard).

This has given me a full 2"lift and kept a pleasant ride.

I am considering fitting Dobinson GV coils which are about 35mm over standard (GV), along with the OME or Dobinson struts and keep the strut spacer.

My theory behind this is it should give me a 3"lift over standard Vitara height and not lose too much up or down travel with the struts and spacer.

The reason I like the Dobinson coils is that their catalogue lists a set of coils with up to 35kg of accessories on the vehicle, and another set with 35kg - 55kg (or similar), my thinking is the 1st ones will not be as heavily sprung so hopefully the ride shouldn't suffer too much.

Hope this makes sense?

As for the rear I'm still looking into that one? At the moment I've got the Gemini coils and VR Commodore shocks and to date has worked well both on and off road, it only gave me 2"of lift, but the ride is not too bad on road and pretty good off road.

I've been told that HQ Holden and early Commodore coils are basically the same dimensions as the Gemini coils, only longer and obviously firmer, both these coils come in a 6cyl variety which may work well with a bit of load in the rear of a Vit.

Again I am still looking into this and haven't purchased any coils as yet, I am also considering just getting a set of 3"lifted coils from GIZ.com which is based in Taiwan, they have some good Vitara products but I don't know anyone who has used their products yet?

mate thats bang on what i wanted to know. I'm running stock height at the moment and i was looking into getting about 2 inches of lift - she's getting hung up a bit more than i'd like. might go with that GV/XL7 front setup and OME shocks when i can afford it, and 40mm XL7 rears from outdoor auto with commoor shocks. add a 2'' BL and i'll be eye-level with cruisers haha.

I had them in the rear of the Gv & thay were way to stiff, you'll need a back brace.

I highly rate the lovell's spring's.

King also.

Std Gv won't give you much if any lift.
Just sticking longer spring's in cause a company sell's em on the interweb & say's thay will give you a 70mm lift doesn't mean thay work well, I was the first to wheel with said Xl7 spring's fitted & thay sucked.
far to stiff & never seated properly, coupled with the shocky's for the same place & the spring's would UNSEAT, causeing even more problem's.
Be for that thay were fitted just to show lift, I would hate to drive a vit with them in as thay were to hard for a Gv.
Not to mention the fact that the spring seat's are a different size, bet that's not mentioned on the site.. :roll:

Might save the dosh and go lovells with OME shocks in the front then ay... still a ways off i just wanted some different opinions on setups. I do like the idea of mixing and matching from other models though, get a real franken-vit happening :D .

KMAC springs located in Rockdale.... Custom made to whatever specs you like.

I think the quality of the ride will always be a individual thing as I'm running the Dobinson H/D XL7 coils + Commodore Shocks in the rear of my LWB Vit and it works well on & off the Road. The Ride is not too harsh but I do carry my recovery gear box (around 20>30kgs) in the back of the Vit all the time..... The XL7 gives me a nice ride height & is great for me and sits at a height where I could remove the rear spacers all together. Dobinson's XL7 Coils were the only XL7 coils (395mm) long enough to meet what I was looking for..... The coils still flop around a bit at full flex though so I've wired them in place at the base.

Just one person's happy experience.... which I'm sure won't suit others...

no with them it almost toped out the struts with 60mm strut spacer
i run standard front springs with 20mm rubber spacer
my mate runs 3in calmini xl7 front springs with rubber spacers in the front of his vit and its nice and soft bacause they have so many turns
its about 4" maybe more
im running custom rear coils.$300 from king springs
would never go back
its about 600mm fron arch to hub ,think stock is 450mm
