Hi guys,

As the colder weather approaches us and the dread of longer warm up times approach, I have been noticing that the Jimny Gearbox is becoming slightly more notchy...

I run a heavy duty 80/90w oil with Nulon Gearbox treatment but still experience notchy gear changes?

Anyone notice this also? Or is it my syncro's spinning still from the PTFE being too slick?

I'm using this. Haven't noticed any change with cold weather. Been 8c overnight.

Manual Transmission
CASTROL VMX-M 75W/85
Mineral transmission and transaxle fluid especially formulated as a factory fill fluid for Mitsubishi vehicles and used in passenger cars, 4WD's and light commercial vehicles. SAE 75W/85, API GL4.
Service Refill Capacity: 1.3 Litres (See Note 402, 103)

80/90 is proly a bit thick until it reaches operating temp.
id run castrol vmx 80 or similar. does seem to make notchy boxes a bit better.

also climb under your Jimny, make sure there is nothing broken around the selector assembly of the gearbox the rubber bushes etc also this assembly can become out of alignment with the gearbox making it difficult to select gears nothing major. have a look at it and imagine what this assembly is doing and you'll see what i mean. mud ca get in this area and bugger things up real fast.

may just have a look at using a thinner oil hope this helps...?

I've always been a big fan for climbing underneath and having a squizz for anything dangeling down, running over things like cats and dogs and the occasional road rage anger management person takes a toll on the little girl... ha ha

That'll fix it, no matter the weather I put a straight 80w in all the Suzuki's.

Not the auto's tho. :roll:

I wouldn't put additives in. I accidentally put half a cup of gear oil in my patrol td 42 box and it went notchy straight away. Put the correct oil back in all ok.

Im having problems when I try to change to reverse. Most of the times wont select the gear strait away, I have to either select other gear and try again with reverse, or loose the clucht a bit (often thinking that the gear is on) and give the last litle push to the liver with the clucht in again
:? ?
any ideas??

Bertzook - I usually double clutch with my situation, otherwise try going into 3rd and then try Reverse... It goes in alright then.
