| Post subject: | Amp Placement |
Recently purchased a tidy little amp (props to 819FKA), and I was having a think about where to put it. I've seen some creative ideas around the traps; mounting brackets up in the rear windows, in the rear door, even some mounted upside down in the roof! Where have you guys put yours? I'm thinking of going the boring way and just going under the passenger seat but just wanted to explore other options. Cheers Red |

If you do mud and water, you'll regret putting it under your seat. Just mount it to the back of your sub box (if thats what your going to run) and then put it all in the back. That's what I'd do anyway. |

fair enough bucket, but i'm just running a set of 6x9's and some speakers. not after bass, just more VOLUME!!!! hehe Buzz do you mean on the roof? guess that would work in your pope-mobile Maybe i could mount up in the roof in the back, that's be a bit interesting... |

good call. Another thing is who to wire it up? I know supercrap and autopro do installs but should they be avoided for any reason? going to replace the head unit at the same time so i prefer leaving it to people who know what they're doing rather than me and a mate with a wiring diagram |

a note to the SWb owners, i have a amp under my passenger seat installed by the previous owner, and stupid people keep stepping on the plugs going into it and snapping them off, another thing to watch out for, you shouldnt have that problem with a lwb tho |

There's a lot of room in the cargo area roof section to make an out of site rack for it. Mines currently under the seat but I'm redoing that and going to make a reverse roof console in the rear for my amp and storing random stuff. Just something to consider. |

I mounted mine under the drivers seat, but I made up some rubber packers that go between the amp and the floor. Up about 25mm just in case the zook leaks a lil. |

I'm actually in the process of fitting my amp at the moment, although i've bought a small size amp (Sony XM-4S) so i can fit it on the side panels of the car next to where my rear seats sit (have to have the amp on the left side of the car because on the right side has the fuel inlet pipe). I'm Planning on having two polk audio 6x9 splits just ahead of them , thought the speakers will be sitting flush with the walls, the amp is going to be recessed into the dip, and I have had to make up an interesting bracket to do this without having screws/bolts sticking out of the body of the car. Hopefully will have it completed tomorrow, will post pics afterwards. (by the way, wiring an amp is ten times easier than wiring a head unit imo. Tuning it is a different story though.) |

in my old GQ i had a small amp mounted up inside the dashboard to power a small stealth dual voice coil sub in one of the rear panels. it was just enought base without being stupid ricer base. |

Just went to a car audio specialist - to wire up a basic head unit and amp, with me supplying wire and leads, he wanted $195 |

take your time with a mate and a few beers and it'll be fine. one of the reasons I have brought a zook is because they are so damn easy to work on yourself. |
