| Post subject: | Steel Sierra diff into Vitara front |
I've started the process of fitting a Sierra steel diff casing into my Vitara front. I will be using the stock alloy axle housing still, as to steel those, I have to steal those I'm told extra strapping of front diff mount will help avoid alloy diff casings exploding. My main question is will I need extra strapping down with the steel diff? I have an empty 1.3 diff case/pinion housing, I will fit that in to work out the bracket I need to make, then pull it out, save for locker, then put all the vit diff and locker into the steel housing. christover |

you used to be able to get a collar from rocky road or somewhere that went around the sierra pinion area to mount to the crossmember, maybe copy that? |

Yes I was planning something similar, just wasn't sure if needed. Will look into that, though. I will shove it in the hole and have a look see, sometime soon. |

yeah you need that mount, it stops the diff twisting around |

I will be using the vitara carrier, as the steel diff is empty (assuming it will fit) I'm finding different part numbers for front lockers in Sierra and Vitara, and I thought they be the same. LOWRANGE sell a front lockrite with carrier already to go, so that may be an option. http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.ph ... ystem.html May still need to use Sierra carrier if lock rite type lockers are hard to get for Vit. |
