I rebuilt my standard 1.3 Tcase yesterday, did it properly with all new bearings and seals, i removed the denten ball while it was out and put my twin stick set in. I used a press and a bearing puller, to get everything off (so i didn't heat anything) and now it has a bit of a whine and a funny noise. Im guessing the whine is i've moved the gears just a tiny bit and there wearing into each other again, but the noise is more like putting a base ball card in the spokes of your bike. It only happens when im cruising along with not much load on it. If i give it a boot full it goes away, and in 5th i can't get it to go away, was thinking a can't put enough load on it with the motor to stop it in higher gears.

could the twin sticks have anything to do with it? and there isn't all that much play in it when you grab the input and give it a twist with your hands....

i was going to buy some thicker oil and try to see if it's going to deaden the noise that way till they wearing.

am i sitting on a time bomb.

Mine whined like a biach when the gears were new, but now, about 5000kms later they have quietened right down.
You have probably moved them all in relation to each other, and they may need to bed in again.

Or you have fucked it, and the case will explode tomorrow.

Did you shim the case? I recently replaced all my bearings and noticed a much larger play/gap in the shafts. Im guessing there must be slight variations in aftermarket bearings, so i got some shims and it hardly whined at all. Mine screwed up though and the countershaft shim has gouged out the case, making a realy loud version of the sound you decribe.

To me a whine is fine, but i'd say, if there's any strange noises, take it out and check the shaft clearances.

OR, your sticks aren't engaging properly and the shift collar is slightly hitting on the wrong gear.

yeah i was wondering about the sticks being a touch out of place, but im now sure there not.

where do you get those shims from?

You can get them genuine, but i was told it would take about 4 weeks, so i got them from low range offroad.
The workshop manual will have part numbers if you want to try genuine.

you need to shim the case up right, the gears aren't meshing right and it will cause problems if you keep driving on it. any parts or bearing shop will be able to get the right ones.
