Hey all am looking at a set of reduction gears for my zooki and was just wondering if there are any advantages / disadvantages apart from the slower crawl speed Cheers Sean |

+Awesome low range +Wayyy better high range +Better acceleration +Better fuel economy Negatives?? Well just you have to spend some $$ and some time installing them but thats what you would do with pretty much any add on. |

am a bit stuck have been reading a bit on here and everyoine says they help high range thbut are they talkingg about high 4 or high 2 but if they are talking about high 2 how do they affect 2wding ???? am new to all this so ay explanation is welcome |

High 2 and High 4 use the same gears, its just whether the front output is engaged or not. Reduction gears will help restore good road gearing with larger tyres. That is one of the big advantages. The other is the reduction in low range to give you a nice low crawl. When it comes to reduction gears you need to weigh up a number of things such as tyre size, how much highway driving you do, and what sort of 4WDing you do in order to get the right gears for the application. |

Advantages. Torque Multiplication - more available grunt and control (go more places easier) Disadvantages. Torque Multiplication - more loading on all of your moving parts (more time on auszookers looking for answers about the weird grinding noises your drivetrain is making) |

You dont _need_ to do it till you go above 29s apparently. I only used 5th gear going down a hill on the freeway with the stock transfer case gears and 31" tires. I have a 1L Tcase in mine, which has fixed highway, and is pretty good in 2L, but I still use more revs and more clutch than I would like on the steep stuff. |

I know whats better for your drivetrain... 31's with gears, not 31's without... its not just about gears, its the whole setup. |

In Sierra's reduction gearing effect both the high and low range ratios. Most other car reduction gear changes only effect low range. This is an advantage if your car is already on big enough tyres or can handle an upgrade without too much problems (patrol/cruisers). But in the zook case it also helps to bring your overall ratios back to near standard or better with larger tyres. |
