Post subject:  coil to dizzy wiring issue help needed

just fitted a 1.3 engine into my sierra, and have no spark

dodgy wiring loom has been tampered with, and we didnt mark any wires when we removed the old engine

question is where to the brown, and black/white wires go from the dizzy?
assume one is power from the coil and one is earth from the coil?

Also, if I have power at the coil, and have have the coil earthed, once I have the dizzy plugged in the correct place is there any reason i wouldnt have spark?

tks for any help

Firstly, what have you earthed the coil to??
Coil's use the dizzy to trigger earth to fire, if you have an earth on it no spark will be made, can also be used as a cut off/anti theft if switched..

I just went out & every dizzy I have here is brown yellow with yellow going to the pos of coil.
So at a guess put your brown to neg coil & take that earth away.

Should have spark.. :P :P

will have to check what it is earthed to when I go to work in the morning
we have a bike mechanic at work, he swapped the engine but didnt make note of the wiring.
we tried the condenser wires both way so may have killed it anyway.
might try a new condenser, and will check the earth on the coil
so where should the negative on the coil go to if not straight to an earth?
thanks for the reply

it had a vitara motor in it but not engineered
pulling it out so I can get rego, putting the 1.3 in then taking it out again.

the neg has a few wires, so must be switched
will remove all bar the one that goes to the dizzy and see if I have some spark
thanks a heap

righto, scrapped it all and started again, though I think it was right anyway

replaced electrics inside the dizzy with the ones out of the motor I know works.

ran 12v direct from the batttery to the + on coil (power into the coil)
have another wire going from + on coil to the resistor (this one hasnt been changed since we started so must me right)
one wire from + on coil to brown on dizzy (power to the dizzy)
one wire from - on coil to the black/white on dizzy

and still no spark.

thought it must be the coil, though it worked before we started, so changed the coil, still no spark.

should I be able to get a spark to jump from the coil lead to an earth? I would have though so, but cant.

doing my head in here, hope you have an idea steknig or someone else.
first time round we had the brown going to neg, so now have tried it both ways :D

after my fun today
pos=2x yellow 1 from dizzy 1 from loom thru white plug.
neg=black from dizzy, brown from loom thru black plug.

What's that for?? :? disconnect it & try it again.

Put a test light on the neg & the clip on pos, should pulse during cranking, if not the module/pick up coil isn't working.

it was already there, but before we pulled the engine out it was going, and this resistor was plugged in, didnt touch that wire.

thanks for your fast comment, will try the test light in the morning.

It's possible that resistor thingy is an ignite module run by the ecu, it was a efi vit yes??

With what you mentioned above, apart from the resistor thing, it should of sparked.
Also check your earth's ( that's Nissan's fix for everything.)

dont have a test light in the workshop, only digital multi meter
will go and buy one
it was a carb vit motor, and I have no worked out the resistor is a noise supressor.
going away to robe for 2 weeks now, will leave the suzi home :P

check when I get back
tks again!

and thats because one goes to the negative of coil , and the other goes back through the loom to the tacho (tachos are negative triggered)
