Post subject:  Grand Vitara wont start after flat battery?
okay, my battery went flat listening to the radio while installing my new tow bar. tried jump starting it but would only crank over but not start.

from looking at it all day i worked out the fuel pump is working, it doesn't have spark and not sure if the injectors are firing.

anyone have any ideas, or know of any good suzuki mechanics around brisbane northside.

If auto is it in P or N and if so try moving the gear leaver as you try to start it.

nah can't be that, it does crank over and nothing when in any other position other the P or N.

Thay do have, but the immob light or eng light should be flashing.

Do you have a test light? sound's to me like you have a blown fuse, & yes, from "jump starting it", you will need to check ALL fusses, if one is blown it could affect another part of the car.
If you have no blown fusses, go shout your self a NEW battery

I'm south side, but these car's are my living.. :P

i've checked all fuses 10 times. i did put a good battery in.

how does the immobilser turn on and off. i've never thought it had one as i've never activatwed/deactivate it.

it's at ultra tune now, hopefully fixed under warranty. they think it's the crank angle sensor or the immobiliser.

Imob chip is in the key, & you don't turn it on or off, has a lil coil on the key barrel.

sounds like the transponder key needs to be reprogramed to the ECU, any good automotive locksmith with a transponder computer should be able to do it.

i thought it would be like a commodore, for it to be like that, as in the key has a little metal bit that touches the car. I started using the spare keys about 5 days ago as the battery in the old keys when flat and was sick of opening the door with the key.

Spare key should still start it, the battery only work the remote, when you turn the ing on, does any of the light's(apart from air bag) flash at you??

the check engine light flashes, couldn't remember if it always did though untill the car was started.

it has a warrenty, so as long as it doesn't cost me money lol!!

with getting the key reset, who can do it, does it need to be suzuki, has it just lost the code in the car.

update, at ultratune they finally got codes out of it but can't fix it. so was then towed to zupps suzuki.

codes are
P1623 - ECU code not matched and,
P1621 - Immobilser serial communication error.

hopefully easy fix now. already cost me $390 in towing and diagnostic fees.

:P :P 8O 8O Code's are an awesome start, But with those 2 code's I have stripped the harness of an Xl7 to find ONE broken wire..

Hopefully it's just a re-learn.. :P

ummm, you do realise you could have got those code out of the ecu using a paper clip & 5 minutes of you time.... tell them to jam their diagnostic time where the sun don't shine if it's more than 1/2 an hour.

yeah did the paper clip thing and only got code 12 - everything is A OK!!


i guess you need a tech 1 to get the codes.

i have posted a bit of info on this over on nbs for the OP.

you cant get any codes other than fuel injection codes from the diagnostic socket.
there is another socket under the dash for manually downloading codes for immobiliser (and its not easy to find)

atari 4x4 , its not quite as simple as what you said , its a series of tests to eliminate any other problem , including wiring problems between the immobiliser and ecu , once you rule out everything else then you can safely say the problem either lies in the ecu or the immobiliser , it took me an hour and a half to do all the tests on another persons car with identical problem, so $120 in labour for diagnostic time .

they may have been steep because they dont know the car very well , or have all the information at hand to diagnose the problem quickly.

^^^ Agree, after market wiring make's it harder some time's to, pulling power from place's that don't like it taken away..

it was a blown ecu, the immobilser circuit within the ecu. to zupps 2 weeks to work it out as it did look like the ecu but the actual immobilser. i ended up sourcing a second hand ecu as they wanted $3500 and had to wait 4 weeks for delivery.

Some one reversed the polarity's while fitting the battery.. :roll:

i honestly didn't, only tried to jump start start it with jumper cables that didn't have spike protection.
