Post subject:  Re: SIERRA - Allergic to water??

there is an upgrade for the charging system. search falcon alternator. to water proof stuff my brother in law chopped up an old bike tube and ziptied it around his coil and distributor. this stopped the water splashing the electronics... worked well

Post subject:  Re: SIERRA - Allergic to water??

do a search on falcon and see what pops up, there is heaps of info. keep a tin of wd40 in your car and you will be ok, just remember it has a carby and dizzy and you will be ok, its not a dakar rally car that hits puddles at 200km/h

You'll always have issues with water in any petrol engine. The only thing you can do is add in a bit of a preventitive like WD40 or water dispersante, even vaseline.

Do a bit of pre-trip planning and give your dizzy, leads, spark plugs and just electrics in general a hit with the dispersant.

As for the altenator there isn't really much you can do. Just make sure after every trip your belts are still tight and that you've cleaned as much shit out of the alternator as you can.

You could also try things like replacing your HT leads and distributer cap. If the gear is new it will more often than not seal better. That's how I fixed mine without WD40. I'd used all mine on the missus.

I bloody good idea I just recently saw was a industrial rubber glove with the tips of the fingers cut and pulled down over the distributor and the leed pulled through the fingers It was apparently very succesful. The end that is usuallt up the wrist was zip tied around the distributor base.
