broke the factory roof rail that came with my jimny.
on the left hand side rear (the crappy plastic elbow that bolts to the roof)

Suzuki dealer told me would cost $700 for a new one....
now that IS a ripoff....

but a Suzuki wrecker in Perth will sell me the left hand side complete rail for $165

that is still a fair bit...
but is it a ripoff...
or is it just what i have to pay?

who makes the rails supplied to suzuki? Unlikely suzuki make them themselves. Have you tried ebay or other wreckers?

Well, knowing how wreckers usually price things, that is, just enough less than a new one that you'll buy from them instead, I'd say go that, cos otherwise its $700!

Actually wreckers charge exactly what they think they next guy that walks in will pay.

If they don't think there's ever going to be a next guy, it will be free.
If they think there will be a next guy in five minutes, it will cost a lot.

$165 makes me think these break quite often. They probably get sold off of every Jimny wreck they get pretty quickly.

The key thing is the price a wrecker charges will actually always be fair. That's because it's the market price. If you don't need it, you won't buy it - simple. It's economics 101.

They are original suzuki rails.

No aftermarket gear will put studs through your roof, then weld them in.

Thanks Gus!

Ps. They are not sold yet! $100 for 2.
