Just looking at different ways for my dogs to get their heads out of the windows of a hardtop sierra. Once installed it should be quick and easy to watertight the car or open the windows. If i could install a sliding window it would be sweet!

If i can't do it easily and cheaply, i won't bother... although i might be able to fashion some type of quick disconnect to remove the entire window...

maybe have a look at the sliding windows which go in boats...my old man sold a set on ebay for bugger all a few weeks ago

I was thinking of some kind of opening rear side windows for me Jimny
So me dogs can stick there heads out of them instead of slobbering and sneezing in my ear.
I wonder if anyone has tried to modify them?

I'm thinking that if i can find a set the right size with the correct surrounds (mild steel tracks) then it wouldn't be that hard to simply weld the surround to the car body. Wouldn't even look out of place...

problem is, most car canopies and boats have aluminium surrounds as aluminium doesn't rust... and you can't weld aluminium to steel... maybe i can get the windows and get some surrounds custom made, or cut out of another car...

I doubt it.

They are encapsulated glass panels, so there is no EASY way to get sliders. A custom frame would need to be made that still located on the single edge seam that currently provides the waterproofing and mounting point. And it would never look factory, or even close to factory for that matter.

If you designed a custom alluminium extrusion for the job, and had tooling made to bend it to the correct shape it could be done, but MEGA $$$$$$

A cargo barrier will stop the dogs from tonguing your ear.

Had another idea, equally as expensive as sliding rear windows....


Convert your rear door to a tailgate and lift up window like an 80 series ??
