Post subject:  Calmini Suspension for a Sierra
Hey guys, has anyone got any feed back on the calmini kits for the Sierra? Is there anyone out there that has had one? I seen the 5" kit one on snakeracing, and thought that be cool nd wont have to do a body lift...

All opinions and advice would be muchly appreciated :)

its poser lift. It doesn't flex at all.

Ive help fit one, looked ok, worked quite well

but for the money I would go with the proven cheap ass methods :)

If you want a 5" lift, look at a YJ conversion. Long springs, reasonably cheap.

Your rear end is working well Shep, no doubt about it, but there's not much compression going on there in the front. The front's the problem from what I can see with the 5" kit - it's asking too much of too short a spring. The end result it poor balance.

I'd like to see that front tyre well up inside the guard, lowering the front of the car and flattening the side angle out.

it is a 5inch kit without the shackle reversal and some other bits :wink: there is more flex in the front
however the VS shocks limit the travel a bit

I don't think your testimony should be admissible shep. :P :D

A 5" calmini kit with no shackle reversal, and no calmini shocks and "some other bits" is not the same as a complete 5" calmini kit.

What YOU have done, is taken a shit kit and made it better. :wink:

actually all i am using is the main leafs, the u-bolt plate things and the rear brake line :lol: and the springs are probably 20 years old :D

I started out with the 3 inch kit, which is just the springs and shocks from the 5 inch kit, as said the Calmini springs and shocks dont do you any favours.

I had the 5 inch kit in bullant and its not worth the money that they ask for it :roll:

springs yes, shocks no (front & back)... plus i've added bump stop extensions

Its a bit like a suzuki 4wd, bloody good little 4bys, but, if you put in a bigger donk, bigger tyres, lower gear ratios, RUF etc etc etc, they be better, sounds a bit similar to Camini suspension set ups, great suspension, but if you do rara, its better.

yeah, but everyone feels the need to improve what suzuki got wrong when they were playing it safe, or building to a budget. But having to improve on the aftermarket parts that you bought to improve what suzuki got wrong is a bit ridiculous IMO.

Its a well known fact that the calmini rear coils are too stiff for most people and applications, and the shocks and struts they supply are rubbish, and in most cases to short for their own coils. I'm sure joseph can atest to this.

The rest of the vitara calmini system is quite well designed. Its just a shame that people still stand by a product that is floored. :?

The ride in my swb is quite good and soft no where near as harsh and choppy as how my lwb was.....im not to sure how that works as i thought it would be worse in the swb being lighter and all :?
The only thing i would change in my swb is the front struts
